Set up: 20Lx15y grid, team split into 2 even teams. Have multiple grids set up to make sure there is no long lines.
Description: 2v2 defending, Game starts with blue team. 2 Blue attackers and first Yellow defender is live when the ball is put into play, then the second trailing yellow defender can run and get back when the first blue player touches the ball. Looking for first defender to slow the attack and the second defender to track back and cover for the first defender. Encourage the blue team to win the ball back quickly if they lose it.
Coaching Points:
1) Appropriate timing
2) Tackle ( ques when to: bad touch by attacker, close to sideline, attacker head down, back is turned)
3) Appropraite body position in approach
4) Pressure on ball, cover in behind
Progression: Adjust the size of the grid. Add 2 trailing defenders.

Organization: 15*10 yard grid set on top of the GK box. One large goal and two small goals set up near half. Two servers on either side of the grid. 4v2 inside the grid with a recovery defender on a cone in between the small goals. Supply of balls with each server.
Activity: 4v2 defending - The server passes to one of the attackers in red who attack 4v2 against the blue defenders. A third recovery defender enters the grid. Objective is to score on the large goal. Defenders can win the ball and counter on the small goals. All restarts with the servers.
Coaching Points:
Closest player presses the ball - quick early pressure.
Close down quickly, slow down and arrive at a good approach distance.
Body position - side on / deflect away from goal.
Show restraint. Tackle when there is an opportunity to do so. Delay when numbers down.
Distance / angle of support for the 1st defender. Defenders should be a position to see both attackers.
Recovering defender must decide whether to win the ball or how best to support his teammates.

Phase: Transition: Attacking to Defending
Problem: We have lost the ball and our opponent is on the attack
Layout: Half field as above
Instructions: right back 2, defensive center mid 6, and left back 3 Attack 5 defenders and try to score in big goal. If they lose the ball they must recover to defend. Blue wins the ball they now counter to opposite big goal, 8 right center mid and 10 left center mid can now recover after team has lost the ball to defend. Play until ball goes out of bounds or a goal is scored.
Coaching Points: As soon as ball is lost (1) the 2 and 3 drop to reorganize (2) the 4 and 5 delay progress
- Speed of recovery. You must run back as quickly as possible to help your team mate
- Where to run to when you recover?
- Can you run into passing lines to stop the attackers passing?
- Can you run to delay the attacker?

Play will start at the top at midfield by neutral player. Defensive team will keep good defensive shape to win the ball to counter goal or pass to their target who is also the supporting player for the attacking team.
Focus is on shape and communication with teammates.

Set Up: 25Lx20Wgrid, 2 even teams. coach has balls and starts each game.
Description: 2v2 Start with what ever side Coach calls out (blue or yellow) start with the ball, sends in 2 attacker and the other side sends 2 defenders. play until it leaves the grid. keep score. If the defenders win the ball they can score in opposite goal. Work on 1st defender pressure on the ball, 2nd defender covers in behind.
