Passing and Overlapping Warm Up drill
Players in groups of 3
The Ball is passed A-B-C-D-E etc
The Player at A, overlaps B and runs to D
Player at B overlaps C and runs to E
Repeat all the way down the line
All player must run past the end cone i.e. J runs to K before returning to the start.
Adding in a second run of cones (blue) allows the passing routine and overlaps to be inversed

Passing Dribbling and Overlapping Drill. (6 players minimum per set up)
Anti-Clockwise (A-B-D & D-E-A)
Player at cone A passes the ball to Player at cone B and then starts an overlapping run to end up at cone D
Player B receives the ball on their back foot, then drives with the ball towards cone C
Player from cone A the calls for the overlapping pass
Player from cone B passes to the overlapping player and then passes to the receiving player at cone D
The same rotation can be started with a second ball from cond D to cone E to cone A (D-E-A)
Change direction
Anti-Clockwise (A-E-D & D-B-A)
Same routine but in the opposite direction.
Keep the ball starting at positions A & D to ensure that the players are doing both left side and right side overlapping runs
Swap the players over and repeat both rotations to ensure all players are doing the left and right overlaps
Variation.
Add in a set of goals if additional players on the corners to introduce a 1-2 and shot on target
Coaching points
1) Communication (a) asking for the pass to start the drill, (b) timing of the overlap pass and (c) to receive the ball at the end of the overlap
2) Overlap pass to be a shallow pass. A pass too far forward can be intercepted by the opposition
3) Overlap run to be an Arc. This should be a full sprint to get round the outside of the player dribbling infield
4) Technical ball mastery.
(a) Was the pass accurate, firm enough snd well weighted for the distance
(b) Was the receiving player on their toes read to receive, did they receive on their back foot and push off immediately into the dribble.
