warm-up: pattern of play, buildup in central areas

set up: set up a passive team in the shape of a 2-3-1 using mannequins or players (if using players the teams will rotate between roles)

Coaching points 

  • introduce patterns that you want to use in the next part of your session when building out from the back
  • encourage players to make game realistic runs and movements 
  • importance of time of runs, attitude of pass, timing of pass, and line breaking dribbles 
  • although it is a passive drill encourage players to move the ball quickly and accurately

7v7 build up player in Central areas (30 mins)

Organisation:

  •  the game is played on a narrow half-pitch using the with of the box.
  • it's a 7v7 game with both teams playing a 1-2-3-1
  • the game starts with the red goalkeeper taking a goal kick.
  • throw-ins are in play but no corner kicks 
coaching phases explanation: 
  • use tactic board to explain the shape of both teams (max 2 mins)
  • once out of pitch explain that where they are now is their starting positions that must return to their positions once i say reset. 
orientation; walk through the goal for both teams with the ball moving, make sure both teams are in correct shape and the team not being coached are set up so that you can achieve your outcome with the team your coaching. let the teams play.

learning phase:
  • coach in logical order, good viewing position to spot and identify coaching points. when stopping to do a coaching point, ask, show, effect all players starting with nearest to the ball, make sure the ball moves. 
coaching points:
  • create width and depth 
  • look to have support behind the ball 
  • realistic game movements from 6,8,10 (not playing like a wide player)
  • 4,5 driving into central areas to create overloads and commit players 
  • using overloads effectively 
  • 6, 8, 10 look to play beyond players and between lines 
  • 9 look to stay high to keep debth 
  • GK provide support behind the ball 
  • use patterns practised in earlier session
