Method: In this warm up drill the goalkeeper moves from the back of the 4 cones to the front of them and receives a volley from the coach, the goalkeeper then throws the ball back to the coach and the goalkeeper moves backwards to the centre of the 4 cones and receives a pass on the ground from the coach. The goalkeeper takes a touch through the left or right cones and then plays a pass back to the coach and this drill should be repeated on the opposite side.
Coaching Points: In this warm up drill the coach can 1: Look at the how quickly the goalkeeper gets from the back of the cones to the front of the cones. 2: The coach can look at the goalkeepers set position. 3: The coach can look at the goalkeepers hand shape when receiving the volley. 4:The coach can look at the goalkeepers distribution from their hands when throwing the ball back. 5: The coach can look at the goalkeepers touch when receiving the ball to feet, does the ball get trapped under their feet or do they take a touch that sets them up for their next pass? 6: The coach can look to see if the goalkeeper uses both feet when playing the ball back or do they just use their preferred foot? 7: The coach can look to see how the goalkeepers distribution is when playing the ball back with their feet.
