Coaching Points
Key technique aspects:
- The knee of the dribbling leg is bent and the toes are pointed downwards and slightly inwards, so that the front of the foot comes into contact with the ball.
- Contact with the ball is made with the laces of the shoe
- The knee should be over the ball when contact is made
- Short steps are used, and the ball stays in front of the stomach at all times
- To stop, press down on the top of the ball with the bottom of the foot (studs)
Key technical aspects:
- Positive first touch out of feet
- Use laces (not side of foot)
- Head up
- Cover ground - line 1, run out - slowly, keeping the ball as close to the foot as possibel i.e. small strides
- Cover ground - line 2, run back - quickly i.e. long strides
Progression
1 - use preffered foot
2 - use unpreffered foot
3 - use both feet
4 - try and perform skills - step overs, out side foot push, sole foot role
5 - RWB from cone A to B to C - this will start to add pressure, fill space and help them lift their heads to avoid bumping into their teammates or their balls
