Title: Football Olympics
8:00 - 8:30
Aim: Put players in a setting where they're getting reps going through a series of technical challenges within a fun and competitive structure.
Activity / Organization:
1 - One touch pass into the box - focus on surface selection and weight of pass
2 - One touch pass through the gate, players must run onto the ball, chip it up and volley or half volley depending on the age group into the small goal - focus on weight of pass, first touch and technique of chipping & striking the ball
3 - Full shot from an angle into 11v11 - shout can't bounce, focus on hip / shoulder placement, getting off your stranding leg
4 - Bowling (set up distance to mimic PK) - players must shoot and hit the ball off the cone, focus on picking a side, striking with confidence, replace ball when done.
5 - Ten juggles then crossbar challenge. Only first three get points, gold, silver and bronze.
Coaching points:
1 - be creative with the surface selection - why don't we trap the ball / use our studs?
2 - being light on your toes before you receive the ball, watching the ball onto your foot and having a clear picture of what you're going to do before you get the ball.
3 - Players hips will over rotate and not face the goal, they will fail to get off their standing leg - coach landing on your striking foot and having a clear visual of where you want your hips face (the goal) after you've taken the shot
4 - courage to put your foot through the ball, players will play the activity - PK - driven shot with confidence and courage.
5 - Dont use the same surface when juggling ten times & try and use different techniques, chip, driven ball etc when attempting to hit the crossbar.

Warm Up / Technical Throw In
(7:45 - 8:00)
Aim: Put players in a setting where they are getting reps performing the throw in action while controlling the ball out of the air.
Notes: Praise 08 attitude to split training since returning from Florida. Football IQ and how important those two aspects (bumping off / running through) are to our attacking shape - split training 'forgetting curve'
Activity / Organization: Players perform rely, first to ten. Activity begins by throwing the ball into a player who must control the ball and set it back to the thrower, she then has to find the pug goal. Rotation: Thrower becomes setter, setter becomes player behind the goal and player behind the goal passes back to the next thrower.
Progression one - check to the left
Progression two - check to the right
Progression three - cognitive
Coaching script / plan for failure:
7:49 - Players will be too close to the thrower - coach the correct distance and discuss why being further away from the thrower gives your team the advantage.
7:53 - Players will attempt to play the ball back first time when the game is calling for them to take two touches / coach shielding the ball, taking two touches, this is a set piece and great opportunity to score.
7:55 - Players will play a pass that can't be served first time / demo a correct weight of pass and the spinning action to challenge for the second ball.
