Organisation (Practice Layout & Transition)
Practice is for 12 players but can be adapted to accommodate more or less
Full area is 50yd x 20yd Grid can be made smaller or larger depending on numbers or age of players.
Are split in to 3 sections along the length - 24yd x 4yd x 24yd.
2 footballs start centrally with Coach, balls are played into attacking team and play commences
Bibs set in to zones ready for players on arrival 4 red, 4 green and 4 blue in readiness for SSG practice afterwards
Spare footballs located outside grid by coach who will put a ball in if one goes astray
Coach to be positioned centrally on one of the longer sides of the grid, this give a good view point for all players, if a 2nd coach is present the will be on opposite side.
Players will be observed and the coach can intervene from here to whole group or individuals
Planned Interventions:
Group intervention to reinforcing or highlighting good technique and movement by any players as well as any
progressions, challenges conditions to be added in.
1 to 1 interventions to coach any players that require correcting, This can be done when the play is on opposite side of the attacking areas.

Progression 1.
1. Possession starts with Coach who will feed a team either side.
2. Team in possession aim is to pass and build up play and pass
the defending team centrally while 1 player from defending team (blue) now presses.
3. Every time play is successfully switched different defensive player presses.
4. Play is for 2 min and then defending team swaps out.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
maximum 2 touches
Amount of passes before split pass.
Additional defender pressing.
Add in a points system for every successful split or successful defended.

Progression 2
1. Possession starts with Coach who will feed a team either side.
2. Team in possession aim is to pass and build up play and
pass through a wide player in conned area defending team centrally
while 1 player from defending team (blue ) Presses.
3. Every time play is successfully switched different defensive player presses.
4. Play is for 2 min and then defending team swaps out.
Challenges, Conditions or Targets:
1. Maximum 2 touches
2. Amount of passes before split pass.
3. Additional defender pressing.
4. Add in a points system for every successful
split or successful defended.
Mechanics for passing
1. Look at target
2. Eye on ball
3. Angle of approach
4. Non-kicking foot alongside ball in a
comfortable position
5. Strike centre of ball with inside
or outside of foot (Identified area of ball)
6. Firm ankle
7. Follow through towards target

4v4v4 (Break the lines)
During this Skill practice the players will be asked to
pass the ball between their team and build play until they
can find a split pass through to other team, this is an opposed,
skill practice and has a number of progressions to develop.
1. Possession starts with Coach who will feed a team either side.
2. Team in possession aim is to pass and build up play and pass through the defending team centrally.
3. Defending team (in Blue) must stay within the designated area.
4. Play is for 2 min and then defending team swaps out.
