DESCRIPTION:
Posession with transition to defend when losing the ball - High tempo - Strong press. (Football Fitness component - Intense fast moving press/Transition 10 to 15 mins)
ORGANISATION:
* 6V3 + 3 Cover + 6 far zone
* 6 blue players - 6 black players - 6 red players
* Practice area of 3 zones. cones/bibs/balls/ 18 players
EXPLANATION PHASE:
* Be clear with roles of all 3 teams
* Explain intense press required by pressing team.
* Explain transition to defend required when ball is lost and intense press.
ORIENTATION + IMPLEMENTATION PHASE:
* Have practice area set up into 3 zones.
* Set players up into their zones, play beginning with blue team in posession of the ball in one end zone being pressed by 3 black players. Remaining 3 black players cover in the centre zone in case the ball is switched down to the other end zone where the red team is.
* Black team must press the ball in blue team zone. If the win the ball, play is switched to red team zone, where three of the blue team make quick transition to press the ball there. Remaing three blue players cover in middle zone while black team go replace blue team in their posession zone.
* If black team hadn't won the ball and blue team made three passes in their zone, blue team can then make a switch of the ball to the red team end zone. Black players covering in middle zone must then make a quick intense press of the ball in the red team zone, while the three remaining black players go into the middle zone to cover them.
COACHING POINTS:
* Pressing of the ball must be intense and all pressers working together to win the ball.
* Position of cover players in middle zone must be good and players must be aware and ready for switch of play.
* Transition to defend when ball is lost must be quick and intense.
* Good communication from all players, both on and off the ball must be good and fluent throughout the practice.
* High tempo of the practice must be retained until the end to enhance the fitness levels of players in relation to the objective of the session.
