Small games to work on ball-carrying, passing, receiving and scanning skills.
Please use exercises to focus on correct technique for stick grip and ball-carrying position
Stop the games and help the players with their grips/ball-carry position or pull a player out of the game to help them while everyone else carries on
Focus on hand position on the stick (split grip). Have a look at this video for guidance https://youtu.be/snpRRXfhgDw
Please have a watch of this clip (it is marked to the carrying position) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qv15ebt0MK4

Raid the Nest
Teams of pairs/split group into single players
Cones as base on the outside of the pitch and a central nest with all 20 balls
Players must run to the Nest, grab a ball and dribble it back to their nest
They may only take one ball at a time and may not steal from anyone else
They may not pass to their partner (if you have pairs)
Once all the balls are gone from the Nest, teams must count the number of balls in their box.
Highest score wins.
Change it up: players can steal balls from other teams' nests but not the nests NEXT to theirs - no tackling
Change it up: allow tackling anywhere outside the nests in the field of play
FOCUS: After each round, allow the teams to form a strategy and play the game again.
Get some feedback from them after the strategy round about HOW / IF they were better etc.

Croquette Legs
4 cones
4/5 teams of 3 or 4 (no more as they stand around and get cold)
P1 dribbles ball around cone 1, dribbles ball back behind the line of players and passes the ball through the teams legs back into the cone-line
P2 must keep eyes forward and wait for ball to come through the legs then dribble the ball to first cone and repeat.
After each player has gone, repeat to cone 2 and then to cone 3
Change it: Players can weave in and out of cones / drag left/ right elimination etc

See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Hockey images.
Move that ball!
4 cones
5 teams of 3 or 4 (no more as they stand around and get cold)
Each team has 3 balls
Player 1 carries ball 1 to 1st cone, sprint back, collect ball 2 and carry to 2nd cone, sprint back, collect ball 3 and carry to 3rd cone
Player 2 then collects ball from cone 1, carries it back to their team, sprints to cone 2, collects ball, repeats
First team with all their balls back at their team base wins
Change it FOR P6: Players have to dribble ball in and out of cones to the top cone, then push pass the ball back to the next player (accuracy etc)

Station 1: Crazy Gates (5 mins)
Colour Cone Craziness
Players in pair with a ball between 2
Different colour gates set up across pitch
Player 1 has a ball must dribble through same colour gates before moving to new colours. Player 2 is going to find the gates (get ahead of ball carrier) that P1 needs to get to and must communicate/call to them so they know where to head to next!
May not go through the same game as another player (encourage eyes-up)
Focus on ball-carrying position (hands away from body, ball out in front of body)
If a pair advances quicker than the others, provide stretch challenges below or just level up for the group:
Change it: Encourage players to use drags and V-Drags to eliminate gates
Change it: pass to a partner and try to get through all the gates in colour order
COACH FOCUS: Ask players where they think they would use these skills when playing a game, help them recognise the skills as elimination, ball control and ball protection skills and when to use them
