Technical This exercise requires good technical ability to play at speed and to make the correct decisions based on what is happening around them. |
|
Tactical The exercise has both attacking and defensive tactical aspects on the original counter attack, the game and any subsequent transitions that follow. |
|
Physical Futsal is a physically demanding sport and is played at a much higher level of intensity than football. Take into account the length of time a player is involved in any exercise and allow players with time to recover. |
|
Psychological Futsal challenges all players psychologically. Due to the speed of the game and constant changing of surrounding players are required to be switched on at all times both in and out of possession. there's no hiding place on a futsal court. |

Counter Attacking/Transitions - 4v2 (2) (30 mins)
COUNTER ATTACKING/TRANSITIONS - 4v2 (2)
AREA SIZE: Full Court
PLAYERS: 2 keepers, 4 outfield players in each team
EQUIPMENT: Balls & Bibs
SESSION DETAILS:
- The session starts off as 4 attackers against 2 defenders, with 2 further recovery defenders joining the play asap.
- The keeper rolls the ball out to ANY of the 4 attackers
- As the keeper rolls out the ball, the 2 recovery defenders sprint from the halfway line to the base line and back on the court to assist the 2 other defenders.
- The 4 attackers play at pace and try to take advantage of the overload and to create a goal scoring opportunity prior to the numbers evening out.
- Once the recovery defenders are on the match becomes a normal game.
ATTACKING TIPS- Play at pace and try to move the 2 defenders away from the middle of the court
- Try to create a 2v1 instead of a 3v2
- Can we create a goal scoring opportunity with the overload of players
- Consider what might happen if you lose possession (safety player)
- As soon as you lose possession you are the defending team. Defend as a team and try to regain possession as quickly as possible.
DEFENDING TIPS- Recovery defenders run as fast as you can, your teammates need you.
- Try and DELAY the attackers for long as possible to allow the recovery defenders to return
- Force your opponent backwards or away from goal
- GK and defenders to work together and to COMMUNICATE
- Leave the least dangerous players and try to stay together as 2 defenders, you don't want a 1v2/3
- as soon as you regain possession you are the attacking team. can you create an opportunity on the transition?
COACHING OPTIONS:You can run this however you like and it depends on what numbers you have available. I personally like to start off playing until the ball goes out of play and then move the teams around if you have 3 or more teams (14+ players). Rotation of ATTACK/DEFEND/REST.You can also mix it up by timing each match or if you lose possession, 2 players need to run again.
What we want to create is scenarios that occur in the game of futsal. We want our players to make the decisions on the court based on what is happening around them.
