Problem 1 (15 mins)

SET UP:

  • 3/4 Pitch game - goal brought upto 18 yard line.
  • 22 Players
  • RED (Coached) 3412
  • BLUE (Opposition) 4231

SESSION EXPLAINED:

  • RED are playing out from the back starting with a goal kick, looking to build up the play and get over the white line to then attack the BLUE goal.
  • Only BLUE back 4 are allowed to defend past the white line, RED have 10 seconds to score once over the line.
  • BLUE looking to score in the RED goal once they win possession, attack as direct as possible when winning the ball back.

BLOCKS:
  • 2 min framing
  • 3x8 min blocks
  • 2 min rest between

BLUE PROBLEM:
  • Blue wingers, 10 and CF sit off and screen the play shuffling side to side, blocking any forward passes.
RED SOLUTION:

  • CB's to carry ball towards opposition player to commit and then correct timing of release of ball to spare player - ideal toget CMs on the ball on the half turn and playing forward

  • High Ball Speed - High Tempo - Switches of Play - Miss players out - to create gaps in opposition block and allowsplit passes

TACTICAL:

  • RED Outside CB's split a little wider to stretch the pitch - look to play outside the line of the block
  • RED Gk one side of penalty spot - CB opposite side to create a back four almost
  • Two CMs look to play advanced of the first line of pressure and aim to get into passing lanes
  • Wingbacks stay high and on the touchlines to pin back opposition fullbacks
  • One CF stay central - One drop in to make two 10's - to pin back opposition CMs
  • Create a 6v4 overload in our favour in our defensive third of the pitch

Problem 2 (15 mins)

BLUE have gone full press

RED SOLUTION:

  • Look to get our two CMS on the ball behind the press of the opposition front line
  • Find the spare men, who at the moment is our 10 and middle CB.
  • Can the middle CB find the WBs feet
TACTICAL:
  • Same starting positions as previously
  • WBs stay high and wide to leave more space for CM
  • Our wingback can receive to feet and then lay off into one of the CM who are now advanced of the 10/CF as they have pressedaggressively and we are now out
  • As the CB looks to pass to the WB, can the ball side CM tuck in to offer another pass or a decoy movement to pull his man with him to create more space.
