Description

The goal is for the #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10 to learn how to work together in order to build up possession from the backline into the attacking half of the field in a controlled manner that allows the attacking team to not only maintain possession but to get the opposing team out of shape and unable to maintain good defensive organization.

The session will begin with a positional passing sequence described in the diagram. This will provide an overview of the principles of building out the back which includes the following: 1) roles of all players (including GK); 2) shape of backline, midfield, and forwards; 3) learning the starting points and when/where to move in order to help us build out from the back; 4) creating a consistent structure for how the team will look to play out of the back.

Learning Objectives

Technical Technical
Use good passing technique to keep the ball on the ground (NO BOUNCE)

Positional Based 4 vs. 2 (15 mins)

HOW THE GAME WORKS: Four players are keeping possesion from two defenders. All players should be placed in the grid based on their positions. Each grid is 14 x 20. 4 rounds of 1 minute each; Deliver coaching points; 4 more rounds of 1 minute each

OVERALL OBJECTIVES: Increase understanding of the fundamentals of possession including: Angles of support, passing/receiving with correct foot, body positioning,1 touch vs. 2 touch, using proper technique with passing/receiving.

Positional 3-Zone Game (25 mins)

HOW THE GAME WORKS: 40x45 yard grid separated into three zones. Two teams are organized into their defensiver third, middle third and attacking third. Objective is to build up through each third and dribble over the opponents endline for a point. Outside backs (#2/#3) and 1 midfielder are allowed to move into any zone when their team has the ball. ALL players must stay in their zone when their team doesn't have the ball.

OVERALL OBJECTIVES: To learn how and when to penetrate within very tight spaces beyond the opposing teams first layer of defense from the backline with either a pass or dribble. This includes learning how to keep possession of the ball using the #6/#8/#10 under high pressure. CAN WE FIND THE #6 FACING FORWARD?

Learning Objectives

Technical Technical
Look to penetrate with a pass on the ground whenever the moment presents itself
Technical Tactical
Display an understanding of the movements required in order to help your team build out of the back; Maintain width and depth in order to stretch out the other team; When a penetrating pass/dribble is not an option, keep possession and break pressure to another part of the field.

11v11 - Ball always starts with GK (30 mins)

HOW THE GAME WORKS: Normal 11v11 except ALL restarts start from the GK. A team gets a point everytime they have sucess at building the ball out from their GK without losing it into their attacking third.

OVERALL OBJECTIVES: Use the principals of building out of the back from the goalkeeper in order to create shots on goal. Every possession should end with a chance on goal.
