Technical Activation (10 mins)

Objective -
To focus on technical aspect of handling and footwork relating to
the ball and centre of the goal.


Description -
Working GK will receive a central volley, before quickly moving in line with the outside server for a second volley, GK will then realign to receive volley from opposite server.


Organization -
10x10 Grid
8x Blue Cones
8x Yellow Cones
4x Balls


Coaching Points -
Micro movements with feet, Hips turn and re-align, Head follows
the balls, soft hands.


Progression -
Introduce mid collapse save from left and right side servers.

Chaos Phase (5 mins)

Objective -
To introduce chaos and unpredictability to the session


Description -
All three GK's will move around the area, COACH will then call out a name and they will need to set centrally for an attacking volley on goal. Other two GK's must avoid making contact with the ball.


Organization -
18 Yard Box
1x Large Goal
6-10x Balls


Coaching Points -
Focus on the ball, avoid making contact by using peripheral vision and spatial awareness, realign centrally with quick feet, safe hands to prevent ball spilling. 


Progression -
1 - GK's not making save, must dive on 2 balls placed to the left and right as the ball is struck from coach.

2 - Vary delivery from Coach (strike from the ground, dipping volleys)

3 - GK's not making save react to any balls that are spilled.

Phase 1 - Shot Stopping (15 mins)

Objective -
To replicate the movement required to manage shooting scenarios.


Description -
Coach will strike a varied volley on goal for GK1 to save. Coach will then shout left or right, GK1 must adjust and face a strike on goal from either GK2 or GK3. Coach will attempt to score any loose balls. Rotate after 6.


Organization -
18 Yard Box
1x Large Goal

2x Mannequins
10x Balls


Coaching Points -
Maintain body position & balance, respond to the ball and not the player, consider tactical decision making if the ball is parried.


Progression -
Introduce a third save with GK1 then facing the final strike from the opposite side to which the Coach calls.

Phase 2 - Shot Stopping & Defending The Space (15 mins)

Objective -
To replicate the movement required to manage shooting scenarios.


Description -
Coach will start with the ball. Coach may strike directly on goal or pass to GK2 or GK3 who may then strike on goal. GK2 or GK3 may also bounce the ball back to Coach who may take a first time strike on goal. GK1 will be required to reposition themselves during this exchange and maintain their balance before performing a save. Coach may also play a weighted ball into the vacant 18 yard box space for GK1 to intercept. Rotate after 6 strikes on goal.

Coaching Points -
Maintain body position & balance, respond to the ball and not the player, consider tactical decision making if the ball is parried.


Progression -
GK2 & GK3 will respond to any loose balls that GK1 may parry.
