1v1: Sonic Split (15 mins)

INSTRUCTIONS:

Start with a THROW-IN for today

  • Defender plays a pass between two gates, to the opponent
  • Defender presses before opponent can get through either gate
  • Game goes into a normal 1v1 from there
  • As soon as the first group begins, start the next. Run multiple simultaneously

COACHING CONSIDERATIONS: 

  • Are players driving quickly?
  • Are defenders IN FRONT of attackers and beyond gates?
  • Is there opportunity for defender to succeed?
  • Coach to throw in if working on control session.

COACHING TOOLS 

Restrict:

  • None

Relate:

  • Receiving and dealing with a hard pressing defender

Reward:

  • Bonus point if attacker can get through any gate in two touches
  • Bonus for defender if they can win possession and score before attacker gets through a gate.

Tactical Game: Lock Picker 2v1 (Mini) (20 mins)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Setup as shown with half the kids on one side and half the kids on the other side. 
  • Attackers dribble in try to score.
  • Defender one can win possession and score in opposite goals.
  • As soon as the first pair scores, concedes, or the ball goes out - next pair of attackers enters (continuous waves)
  • Swap defenders every 2-3 turns. 

COACHING CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Are players driving quickly?
  • Incentivise competition between attackers and between defenders

COACHING TOOLS

Restrict:

  • None

Relate:

  • Receiving and dealing with a hard pressing defender
  • Driving past defenders in midfield

Reward:

  • Bonus for scoring in 8 seconds
  • Reward defenders for scoring in transition

Tactical Game: Tornado (20 mins)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Start exercise with a 2 v 1
  • Every player on the outside has a ball 
  • When a team concedes or when the ball goes out, their next teammate joins by dribbling in
  • e.g.
    • if the blue team scores or kicks the ball out, a yellow enters.
    • if the yellow team scores or kicks it out, a blue enters.  
  • As the focus of the session is to keep the ball when underloaded, can you create a reward system for players to successfully beat players and score when underloaded. e.g. (1 point when overloaded, 3 points when underloaded). 

COACHING CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Make sure the game is continuous and high in intensity
  • Retain continuity once all players are on. Play to 3 balls once everyone is in.

  • Break down in play and transition

Conditioned Game: FUNiño (20 mins)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • 3v3 game
  • Every time a goal is scored the player that scored runs off and teammate comes on at halfway

  • Opposition quickly grab the closest ball and counter attack

Progression:

  • Start the reserves from the corner of the field in their back half.

  • Is the field size too big?
