Description

WHO - Directly... 6, 8, 10, 11, 9 & 7 (Indirectly - 1, 4 & 5)

WHERE - The middle third of the soccer field moving into the attacking third of the soccer field. The central channel of the middle third and attacking third and the flank channels on the left and right.

WHEN - When the ball has reached the middle third and the opposition are compact in the middle, allowing the chances to be created in the wide areas. When the ball has reached either flank and the opposition slide over to defend that flank. Upon winning the ball in the middle third.

WHAT - #7 and #11 need to be patient and maintain their supporting position from out wide. #6, #8 and #10 receive the ball on the half turn facing up the field to make early decision as to go wide or play centrally into the #9. When the ball is with the #7 or #11, #9 supports in the direction of the goal, midfield-trio support with focus on the goal scoring opportunity and secondarily support for ball circulation.

WHY - To stretch the opponent by making them move from one flank to the other. Playing a direct pass through to get in behind the opposition to force them back and closer to their goal and thus bring our team closer to the goal. The width of the #7 and #11 forces the opposition to cover more ground laterally allowing for more spaces centrally.

HOW - Receiving the ball on the half turn and on the back foot. Maintaining the expansive team structure of the midfield-3 line and the attacking-3 line.

Attacking - Building up in the middle third using width to create goal scoring opportunties (25 mins)

Attacking - Building up in the middle third to create goal scoring opportunties

The BLUE TEAM, playing in a 3-3 formation (3 centre midfielders & 3 Strikers) are attempting to build up in the middle third to create goal scoring opportunities against the GREEN TEAM who are playing in a 1-3-1 formation (1 goalkeeper, 3 central defenders and 1 central midfielders).

If the GREEN team win the ball, it is their objective to dribble over the half way line.

FIFA rules apply (Offside, throw ins, free kicks, penalties etc.

If the BLUE team score a goal, the game will restart from the Coach on the half way line who will play a ball in to one of the BLUE players. If the GREEN team dribble over the half way line to earn a point, the game will restart from the Coach on the half way line who will play a ball in to one of the BLUE players.

Coaching Points

- Midfield-3 to receive the ball on the back foot and on the half turn allowing the player to face forward to see if they can create any goal scoring opportunities for their team.

- #7 and #11 to remain wide to move the opposition's defence.

- #7 and #11 to remain wide to be an outlet if the central areas get too compact.

The BLUE TEAM, playing in a 3-3 formation (3 centre midfielders & 3 Strikers) are attempting to build up in the middle third to create goal scoring opportunities against the GREEN TEAM who are playing in a 1-2-2 formation (1 goalkeeper, 2 central defenders and 2 central midfielders).

As the session moves on. The BLUE team will now have a goalkeeper and their own penalty box. This has now increased the area in which they have to work with, meaning that thei midfield build up will come from a deeper position.
