Spongebob Squarepants (30 mins)

Organization:

- Grid is determined on numbrt of players

Instructions:

1.SpongeBob wants to take his pet Gary the snail (ball) to visit his best friend Patrick for a play date by running from his pineapple (start line made with yellow cones) through bikini bottom (side lines made from blue cones) to Patricks’ house (end line made with different colored cones).

2.Unfortunately Mr. Krabs (coach) is mad with SpongeBob and wants to stop him having any fun by taking Gary and turning him into a Krabby patty at the Krusty Krab (designated coned area outside of area shown above).

3.When the coach shouts ‘WHO LIVES IN A PINEAPPLE UNDER THE SEA’, the players reply ‘SPONGE BOB SQUARE PANTS’, and try to get Gary to Patricks’ house without the Mr. Krabs catching him.

4.If Gary is caught then that player is turned into another Mr. Krabs with coach. If a player (Mr. Krabs) catches a Gary from a Sponge Bob, he must take that Gary into the Krusty Krab restaurant and cook him until he’s well done (perform ‘x’ amount of sole-rolls/top-taps etc.) before coming back into Bikini bottom to catch another Gary (steal another ball).

5.If a Sponge Bob is able to get their Gary to Patricks’ house successfully, they are safe in Patrick’ house from Mr. Krabs until the coach shouts again ‘WHO LIVES IN A PINEAPPLE UNDER THE SEA’, and once the Sponge Bob’s reply with ‘SPONGE BOB SQUARE PANTS’, they must attempt to get back home and the Mr. Krabs are able to catch more Gary’s once the players take their Gary’s back through Bikini Bottom.

6.Simply repeat the above steps until all Gary’s are cooked in the Krusty Krab restaurant ready to eat.

Coaching Points:

1.Keep head/looking up when trying to take Gary to Patricks’ house to see were all the Mr. Krabs are so can avoid getting Gary caught (losing possession of ball).

2.Keep Gary close to you (taking small touches on ball) to not let him get away from you and so you can move Gary away from Mr. Krabs quickly when he’s coming to catch him.

3.If you can see a part of Bikini Bottom/a route to Patricks’ house were no Mr. Krabs are, quickly take Gary to/through it (dribble ball quickly into available space) before they have a chance to see you.

4.Try to incorporate simple ball mastery skills when players have to ‘cook’ Gary at the Krusty Krab.

Progressions:

1.R-Players start game without a ball each as Sandy (not Sponge Bob) with yellow/blue pinnies down the back of their shorts as tails, coach is Sponge Bob/Squidward wearing a yellow/blue pinnie, if coach takes a Sandy’s tail they must put the pinnie on and become a Sponge Bob/Squidward with coach.

2.R-Start game without players (Sponge Bobs) using a ball, coach is Squidward/Plankton who tags players to ‘catch’ them, when Sponge Bobs tagged, they turn into Seaweed instead of another Squidward/Plankton and must plant themselves in bikini bottom (can’t move feet) and so can only tag players who run past them by extending their wiggly seaweed arms.

3.R-Same as above (R-2) but Sponge Bobs now start game with a Gary each, if player is tagged it means Gary is caught in Seaweed and the Sponge Bobs become seaweed with Gary held in between their legs.

4.P-Make Bikini Bottom smaller, add harder ball mastery/techniques when ‘cooking’ Gary (turns, moves etc.)

Hungry Hungry Hippos (15 mins)

Organization:

20 x 20 yard area

4 Goals (2 Goals if only 2 Teams)

12 players, plenty of balls

Parents to assist :)

Instructions:

Did you know that Hippos eat soccer balls? We have four very hungry Hippos waiting to be fed (pugg goals that parents hold) Players are split into groups and assigned a Hippo to feed. Players must run one at a time to the middle to collect a soccer ball using a pull back/drag turn. Dribble as close as they can to the Hippo and kick the ball into its mouth (parents raise and drop the pugg goal to signify a mouth opening and closing) The next player must wait until the ball is in the Hippo's mouth. When all the soccer balls are gone each player must count to see how many soccer balls they have in their Hippo’s mouth.

Coaching Points:

- Run as fast as possible to the middle to get a ball

- Dribble the ball to get in line with goal before shooting

- Head up to make sure you kick the ball when the Hippo has its mouth open

Progressions:

Players must do 10 toe taps and using a pull back/drag turn before going to feed the Hippo.

Or ask the parents to open and close the mouth quickly.

Jack in the Box

Organization: Players split in 3 teams. 3 goals 15 yards away.

Instructions: One player starts behind the goal (jack). A goal must be scored to release him. Once the first ball goes in the shooter starts a line behind the goal and jack returns to the ahooting line. From that point on all players try to shoot the ball into the goal and join the line behind the goal. The (Jack) is the last shooter and once they score and join the line behind the goal the game is over. Players who form the line behind the goal can help get missed shots back to the shooters.

Coaching Points:

Eye on the ball

Supporting foot next the ball and pointing at target

Angle of approach is off center

Follow through straight to the target

Progressions:

Time limit
