Session Objectives:
Technical 1) In this session I aim to - improve players ability to control the ball close to their feet or take a touch into space away from pressure. Have a focus on the Mechanics of Control (first touch) On toes, eye on ball/identify space to take touch into, get in line (body) with ball, decide and present surface of foot or body towards the ball, relax on impact.
2) Technical (Secondary) In this session I aim to - improve players ability to 'scan' before they receive a pass or while the ball is in possession. Help players become more proactive when in possession to we can advance the ball to an area that we have a numerical advantage rather than just keeping possession with no purpose.
Tactical 1) In this session I aim to - improve players understanding of when to invite pressure into central areas to receive theball centrally and create space in wide areas to play forwards and create chances on goal. Help players identify where we have a numerical advantage after inviting pressure centrally and penetrate opposition.

Description:
Players are continuing to work on their first touch into space (away from pressure) here but, within a mini game to add more realism and help them apply learned techniques as skills + combine with teammates against an opposition. There is also a central area added (only 1 player from each team can be in here at any time) Both teams can score in either mini goal but must do any of the following things first:
- Play a pass to a teammate between the flat markers twice and take first touch away from defender (defenders can only defend by running through the markers)
- Play through the central zone (in and out) twice (only one defender can press inside this area at a time)
- Play through the flat markers or central zone once each
Measurements:
20M X 25M Rectangle (with Flat Markers in each corner as displayed) 5M X 5M central zone
Interventions:
2 Coaches (use a blend of individual and group intervention to maximise ball rolling time as players need lots of opportunity for success here)
In the first 2-4 mins use group intervention to cover main coaching points e.g. are we looking to play teammates centrally or between markers enough, freeze or highlight when players over crowd or are too stagnant or to provide praise in positive moments. For the remaining 8-11 mins, one coach to observe overall play and 2nd coach to do individual interventions (max.15 seconds) on players technique and adaptation of technique in game.

Tactical Can players identify quickly where the best numerical advantage is after playing the ball centrally to invite pressure? Can the wide players make runs beyond so that we can advance the ball forwards when in the final 3rd rather than laterally? |
Description:
Players are continuing to work on their first touch into space (away from pressure) here but now are incorporating game like movements in an attacking scenario in the final 3rd to score or have a shot on goal. 4 players look to attack and score, the ball must be played in to the central zone and back out to a wide player (7 or 11) or back to the deep player (6, 3 or 4) before advancing towards goal. There is one defender from the opposite end that starts on the pitch and can defend anywhere. If they want to pressure the player in the central zone, they must wait for the ball to be played into that area first. Once the attacking team has had a shot on goal one of the other players that are vacant enters the area as a defender and the defender from the previous defending team stays out as the player receiving in the central zone now. This continues in waves for 6-8 mins to allow for lots of repetition and have the players working at a high intensity.
Measurements:
70M X 35M Half Pitch space (with 10M X 10M central zone)
Interventions:
2 Coaches - Have coaches positioned diagonally on opposite sides of the pitch so they can observe both teams attacking and defending. 1 coach at a time may enter the inside of practice area when necessary to observe how players are receiving the ball to play out to a wide, and 1 coach at a time (ensure one is still watching the larger space at all times) can circle around to the players that are resting near the goals to provide feedback and to show sets of players what they are seeing tactically 30-45s and give them some ideas and tips to implement. Try not stop the practice at all for group interventions until the 6-8min period is over as players need to build understanding with each other when combining to go forward - they need to problem solve during this exercise so leave group interventions for break periods.

Can the wide players make runs beyond so that we can advance the ball forwards when in the final 3rd rather than laterally? If we are unable to receive the ball centrally can the team in possession look to invite a press deeper to draw out the pressing team and then play between the lines to advance the ball into the final 3rd? |
Description:
Play 9V9 Half pitch game. Team in possession is looking to advance the ball forwards to score and try to utilise the central area to invite pressure into midfield and create space in wide areas. Only one player from each team is allowed inside the central area at any time. Other players can only defend the central zone by blocking the passing lanes on the outside. 3 points for a goal that is scored after the ball is played into the central zone and back out of it. 1 point for a goal without any conditions applied. (One coach to start as a central bouncer to observe first 5mins then transition to players).
Measurements:
70M X 35M Half Pitch space (with 10M X 10M central zone)
Interventions:
(2 Coaches available)1st Coach Observing from central area and participates as bouncer for 5mins so they can observe how players are moving in the centre of the pitch and if they are looking to play passes centrally to invite pressure in the midfield. 2nd Coach Observing from an area similar to that of a matchday to see how the team's structure is tactically as well as what they've incorporated technically from the session's exercises. Coach on the inside of practice to roam when necessary to provide quick 15-30s feedback, when necessary, without stopping exercise. Coach on outside to bring players out for slightly longer feedback and to show player what they are seeing tactically 30-45s. Be aware avoid both coaches providing feedback individually at the same time unless there is a group intervention. Coaches can both see each other in practice with this set up.

'Escape Room' - First Touch away from pressure (Work:Rest 2:1) (10 mins)
Description:Players are working on their first touch into space here using different types of touches to take the ball into space. (instep, outside of the foot, sole roll, 1touch and 2touch).
- Players with a ball play a pass to another player standing between 2 flat markers and then follow their pass.
- Players between the flat markers must take their first or second touch outside of the markers and then swap with the passing player to find the next option.
Measurements:
10M X 15M Rectangle (with Flat Markers in each corner as displayed)
Interventions:
Adaptations (Progressions & Regressions):Offset the start time of each rotation - while one group is working for 30 seconds extra, you can give them a short break while explaining coaching points and using the working group as a visual. (e.g. 1 working rotation = 2mins, start the timer for group 1 and wait 30 seconds so group 2 can observe then group 2 starts after 30 seconds, when group one stops group 2 will still be working for 30s, use this time for quick intervention and coaching points then repeat)
Progressions
1. Single pass between the markers and follow pass to replace teammate2. 1-2 pass to increase speed and reduce time to take touch into space
3. The player playing the pass may try and tackle the receiver (only running between the flat markers)
4. Have more players start centrally with a ball to encourage players to scan more to find the free player quickly as there is limited options to play to.
(add or remove these to progress/regress appropriately)
