POSSESSION (20 mins)
- 2 teams and 2 neutral players (one at each end of pitch). Adapt team sizes based on players available- Condition: All players must be in the same half of the pitch at all times
- Teams aim to make 6 passes in one half of the pitch, using the neutral player if needed, before scoring in either of the two mini-goals in that half = 1pt if achieved
- If a team regains the ball, they must find the neutral player on the opposite side of the pitch, and all players move across to that side of the pitch
- If the ball leaves the field of play, the coach plays the ball into the opposite neutral player, and all players move across to that side of the pitch
COACHING POINTS + INTERVENTIONS:
- Quick recoveries to other half of pitch on transfer of ball, making it harder for opposition to make their passes and attack successfully. 11v11 context: Midfielders recovering in straight lines to goal, in order to defend box to prevent opposition from scoring
- When recovering, attach yourself to opposition runner who's looking to receive in other half by keeping them in the line of your body, making it harder for ball carrier to connect passes. 11v11 context: Midfielders tracking opposition runners into the box, after opponents free the ball down the line upon regaining
- Once recovered, apply pressure on ball and protect opposition from scoring in mini-goal
- Drive pressing and transitional behaviours with heightened and intensified coaching voice
POTENTIAL PROGRESSIONS/REGRESSIONS:
- Apply time limit for all players to get across to other half when ball is played (3 seconds). This increases the physical demand of players and gets quicker support to the ball carrier, placing a further demand on the defensive transitional behaviours
- Make game directional: Reds only score one end and blues only score other
- Give individual conditions, challenges and rewards, based on their development needs
