Progression 1
Vary the order of team passing [i.e. 1) red to black 2) black to blue 2) blue to red]
Vary the amount of touches from no limit to 2 or 3 touch (if situation arises can player use 1 touch effectively)
Vary the pitch size - more advanced players need less room!
Key Factors
Encourage early movement in anticipation of where the ball is going to be passed
Encourage good information from player passing the ball to the player receiving to help the receiving player identify the next pass
Can players anticipate where the pass is going to be played and make supporting runs to help the receiving player pass the ball on in fewer touches
Challenges:
How many passes can each team do in a given time frame

Progression 2
Divide playing area into squares (6 or 9 zones)
1) Condition/challenge the players movement by challenging the players to move to receive the ball in another area from the one they are currently in - encouraging passing and movement into space (see red 1 movement to receive pass from blue above)
2) Condition the players passing the ball by setting the rule that they must move to another area once they have passed (see red 2 movement once he/she has passed the ball)
Key Factor
Encourage players to move into space once they have passed the ball (not passing then standing still)
Encourage players to move into space to receive the ball (not just standing still and expecting the ball to come to them)
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.

Progression 3
Competitive multi-directional possession game (4v4v4)
Start with blues and reds against blacks. If blacks win possession of the ball the side that gave away possession then becomes the defending team. (coach needs to give clear commands as to which team is defending to avoid confusion)
Coach can limit touches depending on the needs of the players
Key factors
Communication - can players give good information to help passing players and receiving players
Awareness - can players scan early to identify space, defending players and supporting players
Movement - movement off the ball is a priority both to recieve and after passing it
Receiving - open body shape when receiving the ball (back foot)

Awareness before players receive the ball
Start with colours only being able to pass to someone in their own colour (i.e. blue to blue)
Key Factors
Can players spread out and use the width and depth of the playing area
Scanning before player receives ball to be aware of who 's in space prior to receiving the pass
Creating space (on/off ball) - timing, angle and distance of supporting runs
Passing (accuracy and weight)
