Set up

Players set up as shown.

Play starts from black neutral players (switch pass between them?)

Blue back 4 start in line with the two poles to ensure they aren't too deep

Reds aim to score in the main goal (can use the neutral players to maintain possession)

Blues defend it and aim to play the ball into the neutral players

Pressure/threat

If there is no pressure on the ball and a threat of a run in behind (as in picture) the back 4 need to drop off and the GK needs to be high and ready to sweep up any balls that come over the top.

If there is no threat in behind the back 4 must hold but be ready to drop - open hips and weight on the back foot.

If the ball is passed backwards the back 4 must move up the pitch immediately and together - 'move as the ball moves'

But then they need to check just as the red player is about to receive the pass in case he plays over the top first time - 'get out and check a step'

Switch of play

On a switch of ball, the back 4 need to slide across the pitch  to ensure they are all defending ball side and goal side.

Midfield 3 also slide across to try and block passing options

Role of the midfield 3

The midfield 3 must always stay together so they can't get played through.

When the ball goes to an opposition midfielder they must press together.

If the red centre forward receives the ball to feet then the deepest midfielder needs to press him from the front.
