Walk, Bike or Take Public Transport

Purposeful Play:

  • Play in a tight space, ~10 meter x 10 meter, with as many balls as possible. If there are not enough balls, players without copy the different movements and then rotate the ball next round.
  • Spread cones or items all around the middle of the area representing various traffic obstacles.
  • Coach has a red (Freeze), yellow (Toe tapping the ball) and green cone (Go), like traffic lights in front of them. Whichever the coach’s foot touches, players follow.
  • Play for 1 minute with players dribbling and moving around the area avoiding all obstacles.
  • Play again, but this time if someone loses control of their ball (goes out of the field, hits a cone, hits a player etc), they have to put their ball to the side and join the back of someone else with their hands on their shoulders.

Purposeful Questions While They Are Playing - Ask Questions and Listen to Answers:

  • What are your favorite forms of transportation?
  • What kinds of transportation do you see in your community?

Purposeful Play - Use Your Imagination or Our Suggestions to Create New Ways of Playing:

  • Next round, use the answers from the question section to introduce different types of transportation and different types of player movements:
    • Car = run around fast on your toes while dribbling
    • Bike = jog around with the ball rolled by the sole of your foot
    • Walk = walk with the ball
  • Play for a couple minutes and observe.
  • Adjust the different dribbling/movement skills depending on the level of your players.

Purposeful Questions After the Game - Ask Questions and Listen to Answers:

  • Which types of transportation are the best for the environment?
  • In the game, what do you think multiple people joining 1 line could represent?
  • What are the benefits of having less cars and traffic on the road?
