Ball Mastery Warm Up (5 mins)

Ball Mastery 

Beginning - 4 Corners 

Set up: 

  • 30m X 20M zone
  • 1 ball per player
  • 1 coloured zone per corner

Explanation: players are to dribble the ball close to their feet around the entire zone ensuring they keep their eyes/head up for as much as possible, developing Ball Mastery skills.

Coach calls out a colour and they all progress to that zone and hold the ball awaiting request to start moving again.

This continues for the next colour call.

Ball Mastery Progression 1 (5 mins)

Ball Mastery Progression 1

Beginning - 4 Corners

Set up:

  • 30m X 20M zone
  • 1 ball per player
  • 1 coloured zone per corner

Explanation: players are to dribble the ball close to their feet around the central zone ensuring they keep their eyes/head up for as much as possible, developing Ball Mastery skills.

Coach calls out a colour and they all progress to that zone and return to central zone awaiting call to next colour zone.

This continues for the next colour call.

W.T.T. Mr. Wolf (10 mins)

Ball Mastery 

Beginning - What Is The Time Mr. Wolf.

Set up:

  • 30m X 20M zone
  • 1 ball per player
  • set coloured cones - perimeter set to define zone.

Explanation: players are to start on one side of the zone with the ball at their feet awaiting a call from Mr. Wolf as to how many Ball contacts they must make to get across the zone.

The Call is made What is the time Mr. wolf? a number is then called out and all players must touch the Ball at least that many times to progress across zone. 

They await on the opposite side of zone to await the next Mr. Wolf time call, this progresses to develop their Ball Mastery Ball Control possession maintained at no more than 1 m in front of the player.

Progression can be done with stating which part of the foot can be used to control the ball, ball controlled only with left foot etc.

Dribble to Shoot (10 mins)

Ball Mastery

Beginning - End Game Dribble to Shoot

Set up:

  • 30m X 20M zone
  • 1 ball per player
  • Four Small Goals
  • Coloured Cones set of Forty min.

Explanation: players are to dribble the ball close to their feet from start cones to double red cones and shoot at Goal retrieve ball and start same from yellow cones at next start point adjacent to them. Repeat drill same again to opposite end repeat as many times as possible for 5 - 10 minutes. Driven by skill level during drill session.

SSG (20 mins)

Ball Mastery

Beginning - SSG

  • Bibs to define teams - players
  • Two Small Goals
  • Coloured Cones set outlines of zone.

Explanation: players are set into two teams and given a goal to defend and one to score in then play is commenced to allow skills learnt to be further used / developed.
