Passing /Receiving (25 mins)
Organisation:
a) size of pitch dependant on number of players.
b) 2 x players in shaded area (midfield area) & 8 x players on outside - play with 5 balls.
Instruction: (See yellow line)
a) players on outside feed ball into player within shaded area who in turn passes to other player in shaded area.
b) once pass made that player looks to pass to outside player without a ball - practice is continuous, once 1st player in shaded area receives and passes on, they then look to receive another ball.
Note: If both players receive a ball at same time encourage them to pass to outside player and not wait until other player in shaded area is free.
Progression 1: (see black line) - play with 4 balls.
a) a player on outside passes into a player within shaded area who passes on to other player in shaded area (as original instruction)
b) Player on outside, once original pass made then runs into space within square and looks to receive ball from 2nd player in shaded area, and then pass to a free player on outside and then follow pass.
Note: If both players receive a ball at same time then look to pass to the runner and not hold on to the ball.
Progression 2:
a) as progression 1 but now take one of outside players (2 x players as a further progression - remember to reduce balls) and ask them to play within square (not shaded area) and look to intercept passes to runs of outside players.
Coaching Points:
a) take care of pass
b) body shape to receive - think where next pass will be
c) check shoulder when receiving
d) communication - verbal/body shape
e) movement - find space/timing of run.
f) awareness of free players & defender in 2nd progression.
