Aim: To introduce the participants to basketball in an engaging way.
Objectives:
1. Utilise basketball related games to get the participants moving and having fun.
2. Prepare challenges and conditions for games to keep the participants interested.
3. Introduce participants to certain skills early on.
Equipment: Set of Cones, session plan, whistle, 16 basketballs
Venue: Cleeves Primary School, games hall
Population Group: Children (Primary 5, 6 & 7), mixed ability
Duration: 45 minutes

Tactical Nonlinear Approach |

Basketball game:
Split the group into 4 teams (more or less depending on numbers).
Use 2 basketball courts. Bib up three teams. Tallest kids in the centre to get the ball first
1 basket = 1 point (KEEP TRACK)

Tactical Game related |

Sharks & Minnows:
2-3 kids are sharks (BLUE). The rest are minnows (RED) and each have a balls. Sharks must try to knock out the minnows balls. Minnows must try to dribble all the way up to the other side without a shark knocking their ball out of bounds. If a minnow loses their ball, they become a shark.

Have more sharks/use a smaller area
Have minnows become seaweed if they lose their ball
Can use other balls as substitutes (e.g. volleyballs)

Physical Adapting practices |

10 Second Hoops:
Split into 2 teams (12-13 on each side). Each child has a ball. When the whistle blows, they run up to a basket and start shooting. Each time they shoot, they must move to a new basket. They have 10 seconds to score as many baskets as possible. Ask the assistant coaches to help keep track on the score.

If they catch the ball, they can try a rebound.
Limit the baskets they can use.
Make the area smaller.
