Passing and Movement (20 mins)

THE SESSION: 2 boxes of 4 (more numbers are fine) first minute have players pass and move. Than instruct players to pass and move around cone. Teach the importance of awareness in the session, players must check shoulder before receiving ball and before moving around cone, players must also face the play players can then move to any side of the box not just around a cone.

PROGRESSIONS:

Players now must only pass right after every pass and to somebody different.

Progress this to Left only and then right and left passes.

Awareness, communication, eye contact, strong pass

2v2 SSG (20 mins)

Organization

-10 players

-see diagram for set-up and equipment

-area of approx. 25x20m (adapt for age/abilit/numbers)

Activity

-on coaches call (red yellow) 2 players for each team must react, touch that colour cone, then run around their net, with coach passing ball in, to play 2v2 till they score or ball is out.

Possible variations/progression

-x amount of passes/time

-1 touch finish

-good decision-making

-read the defenders movement and positioning

-should I dribble into the space or pass to open team mate

-suck defender in and pass to pass the defender

-attack with good speed

-finish with accuracy

Finishing in final 1/3 (20 mins)

A plays ball to B who plays ball to C

C lays ball off for B running on to a shot

Start 2 touch and progress to 1 touch

Players rotate after each round (A becomes B, B becomes C, C collects ball and joins back of the line)

Can stipulate which foot is used (e.g. reds use right, blacks use left - teams switch sides half way through)

Press/Cover/Balance (20 mins)

THE SESSION:Defending outnumbered. Red team passes out to Blue. Blue attacks 1 v 1, 2 v 1 and then 3 v 2. Press, Cover and Balance as you expand to man up attacks.

PROGRESSIONS:1v1, 2v1, 3v2
