Engender - Safe Choices

• Participants understand that UNSDG #5.6 is sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

• Coaches understand UNSDG target 5.6 is Ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights.

•  Two teams spread out in a space (can be more than two if there are many players).

• Each team tries to possess the ball (with hands or feet). When a team gets 5 consecutive passes they earn a 'safe choice’ – which can be represented by a cone or other object - and they shout a different safe choice each time they succeed.

• Teams can come up with strategies to earn more ‘safe choices’ throughout the game.

• Challenge them to come up with choices specific to gender-based violence prevention.

• What do you have to do to gain ‘safe choices’?  

• What are the safe choices you have named so far?

• Are these choices often made in your community? Why or why not?

• What do you need to make more of these choices in your lives?

• Can adjust the number of consecutive passes.
• Can add a second ball depending on numbers and abilities. Can also transition from discussing safe choices to obstacles facing those choices and then potential solutions, so a few rounds of play with different objectives.

• Can also add in a different way to earn ‘safe choices’ such as moving the ball to 4 sides or corners of the field, taking a risk by trying out a new skill, making sure the ball is shared with everyone on your team etc.

• Be imaginative. Try your own variations and progressions!

• What does it mean to be an active citizen?

• How can we become active citizens and support others to overcome obstacles to safety?

• Be imaginative. Try your own questions and encourage the group to ask their own questions.
