Rondo Warmup: 4v2-6v4 (20 mins)

Organization: big square is:18x18 (small square is 8x8). If any extra players, they can rotate in or play 7v4.

Instructions:

start with a 4v2 in he small grid. Red is trying to connect 8 passes to get a point (2 touch only). 

If yellow wins the ball they connect with the 4 players outside and turn into 6v4. The 6 can score a point by connecting 8 passes (2 touch max.). If red regains the ball they can score a point to dribble outside the square. After each point play restarts inside the small grid.

2 defending players stay inside (#6's), rotate outside after each round. 

Coaching Points:

Transition D-A

1) Increased level of technical execution on the transition (FT, pass or dribble/cut). 

2) Timing of the technical execution upon transition.

3) Movement to support and awareness of space of players without the ball. 

4) High speed of play within a compact shape. 

Transition A-D

1) Aggressive Reaction to not let opp connect 3-4 passes. 

2) Closest Player to the Ball Press to cut 1 side

3) Supporting Players Read to Jump Man to Man or Stay in B/W (Anticipate Players Actions - Body Shape, Eye Contact, Pressure) Read to Be more Agg by stepping in front of mark (Screen)

4) Press, Mark, Cover Space

4v3-7v8 (25 mins)

Organization:

  • 4vs3 - 7vs8

Instructions:

  • Ball starts with 4v3 in initial grid. The 3 can progress at any time. When they progress, the red 6 can join the attack and the yellow 10 can recover to create 7vs8. If yellows regain the ball they attempt to find the 2v2 inside the grid. the red 6 can not drop to recover, he must try to screen and intercept passes into the zone. If reds score a 2nd ball will start from the coach played into yellow. 

Coaching Points:

  • TRANS A-D: 

    1) Aggressive Reaction to not let opp connect 3-4 passes.

    2) Closest Player to the Ball Press to cut 1 side

    3) Supporting Players Read to Jump Man to Man or Stay in B/W (Anticipate Players Actions - Body Shape, Eye Contact, Pressure) Read to Be more Agg by stepping in front of mark (Screen)

    4) Press, Mark, Cover Space

  • 9/10/7/8 find your marks b/w the 2 cbs & 2 6s. Opposite side close space - Less distance to the man but be ready to step
  • 11/3 recognize to jump to full back or come in to compact space and read long ball
  • 6 - recognize to screen passes into grid. Central or shifting towards the side of the ball
  • 4/5 - read long ball & ball b/w lines. Stay goalside of opponent but marking. Mark/Cover when ball enters grid. 2v2 principles

Non Focus Team 

  • Trans D-A: Try to Connect 4passes or progress fwd quickly to find the 9/10 b/w the lines. 9/10 counter movements & vary runs to disorganize the 4/5. 

Progressions:

  • The 6 can recover to defend alongside the yellow 10 who can join the attack. Everyone can recover behind line. Non Focus Front 3 change pressing structure.
