15 mins
Topic: Switching play by building from the back
Organization:
- 12 players involved
- Create a grid with 3 zones with cones - middle zone is smaller
- 20 yards by 10 yards by 20 yards
- 4 pinnies needed & soccer balls
- Players must successfully switch play before playing through the middle zone
- There must be 3 players in the middle zone at all times
- 1 player may press the ball in the other 2 zones
- Defending players may only press & intercept passes
Key Factors & Progressions:
- Scan before they receive
- Support - angle & distance - on both sides of the grid.
- Players need to make themselves available on the opposite side of the grid to receive passes with the correct angle - if there's a defender in between you & the ball your angle is incorrect
- if defender wins ball they switch with player that had last touch
- no forcing passes through - switching play makes the defense less compact so you can play inbetween them (break the lines)
- Timing of movement
- Communication
- Transition
- Shape to switch

10 mins
Organization:
3 Team moving box rondo
- Split players up into 3 teams of 4 - pinnies on
- Create grid - 20' x 10' x 20'
- 4 players in each box
- 2 defensive players press & intercept - 2 players wide defend the next box
- 4 v 2 in each box - looking to switch play by playing through to the other box
- if play is successfully switched the wide defenders go to the next box to press & the other defenders replace them
- if defenders win the ball they become attackers - all 4 must join them quickly in the box they won the ball
* suggestion would be to play the ball to the opposite box so they can get organized
- team that lost possession become defenders & play 4 v 2
- if ball goes out - coaches discretion if teams switch
- wide players need cannot intercept when they're wide
Key Factors & Progressions:
- Transition from attacking to defending
- Don't force passes - keep possession
- Shape in possession
- Support = angle & distance
- Switch - play through if the opportunity is there
- Decision making
- Weight of pass
- Communication
- Scan before receiving

Topic: Switching play by building from the back + cool down
Organization:
- Create a grid with 5 zones - 2 zones smaller
- 15' x 10' x 20' x 10' x 15' - approximately
- defenders (red) are in the smaller zones of the grid - defenders don't change
- attackers start on 1 side
- attackers work together to play the ball through to the middle zone - player 3
- once they play through they advance & join player 3 in the middle zone
- players must work together to dribble through the next zone
- once play makes it to the opposite side - activity starts again
- If defenders win ball they pass to other defenders
- Coach switches defenders - player 3 remains the same until coach switches them
Key Factors & Progressions:
- Using width to isolate defenders
- decision - making
- runs off the ball
- communication
- support
- scan on and off the ball
- mobility - timing of movement
- angle of players receiving passes in different zones
Cool Down
- Cool down jog.
- Static stretching - stretching while standing or sitting
- Coach debrief of session - positive reinforcement
- Injury check

Topic: Switching play by building from the back - WARM UP (10 minutes)
Organization:
1. Place 2 cones 2' apart, then 2 more cones parallel 12' away. (3-4 minutes)
- Divide players into 2 side by side lines for Dynamic Stretching.
- High knees, butt kicks, opening/closing hips, high kicks, inside/outside footwork, side steps, lunges, backwards to sprint.
5 Steps to intervene during a session to teach:
Freeze, recreate, demonstrate using players, rehearse using players & go live
Help players be successful - be positive
Gather the team after warm-up let them know the Session Topic & a brief overview of the activities they will take part in during the session.
Organization:
2. Split the players up into groups of 6 - each area needs 2 pinnies & soccer balls. (10 minutes)
- 15' X 15' per area - size of area may vary
- 4 V 2
- If defender wins ball - they switch with player who had last touch
- If ball goes out - player with last touch switches with nearest defender
- Coach serves back in if new ball needs to be played
Key factors & Progressions:
1.Encourage players to take their time with dynamic stretching. Discuss the importance of warming up muscles to allow bodies to operate at 100% ability & also to prevent injury.
2.
- Transitioning from defending from attacking when attackers lose possession quickly
- Speed of play
- Support - angle & distance (movement off the ball to create passing angles)
- Scan before they receive (check shoulder to gather information on & off ball)
- Decision - making
- Communication
- Open body shape to receive passes
- Quickly using width to create time & space in possession
