SSG:
Blue team: 1-2-4-1 (8 players) Working from the back 11V11 1-4-4-2 I have removed the two defenders and a striker and now added a keeper for the SSG.
Red team: 1-3-3-1 (8 players) Working from the back 11V11 1-4-4-2 I have removed 1 defender one midfielder and a striker.
Total number of players: 16 players
Pitch size: Half pitch.
Duration of the session: 20 minutes of small sided game.Conditions, Challenges & Targets:After 10 minutes of specific practice, and one minute break we progress into a small sided game without any conditions on the game unlike the specific practice which had them. Hence more realism comes into play and I will see how much the players understood the principles of breaking lines in the session. The dotted lines are examples of how we break lines with break through, around or over.
Problem 1: Unable to break the line from the center or a side.
Solution: Go over and across.
Problem 2: Unable to break the line through.
Solution: Go across and switch sides to break through and break the line.
Reflections:
Good playing through, around and over to break the line was visible and achieved. The walk through at the start helped the players understand the aim of the session. They enjoyed the challenge of breaking the line early and on high tempo when I had the six seconds rule to break the line. The two problems and solutions gave them room to think outside the box. I think it was a good coaching process that had a good impact on the session. I enjoyed the going over ambitious passes the boys tried when they could not go through or around. My coaching position for me was too close to the ball. I should next time take a more zonal view for a better diagnosis of how the players were adapting to the scenarios.
My action plan to be to repeat this session with 11V11 on the full pitch with myself taking a a more aerial stand view to see how the full squad understands when, how we break the line. This will assure me how well prepared we are tactically to break the line of the opposition without hesitation.

Specific Practice
Specific Practice:
Session Objective: In possession breaking the lines. Through, around and over.
Session Organization: I will be coaching the BLUE team with the principles of breaking the lines.
Blue team: 0-2-4-1 (7 players) Working from the back 11V11 1-4-4-2 I have removed the keeper, two defenders and a striker.
Red team: 1-3-3-1 (8 players) Working from the back 11V11 1-4-4-2 I have removed 1 defender one midfielder and a striker.
Total number of players: 15 players
Pitch size: Half pitch.
Duration of the session: 10 minute of specific practice.
Conditions, Challenges & Targets: The blues defenders are conditioned not to go above the D area of their penalty area. Hence they will need to break the line to progress play. Challenges on the blues are to either break a line through, around or over before the target of scoring. Reds team will have 10 seconds to score on the mini goals when they win the ball so blues can start over again from the defenders to have more of the principle of breaking lines in play by blues.
