Liverpool Rondo (10 mins)
Organization:
- The grid is 22x14. The poles are 2 yards wide and on the short side they are 2 yards from the corner and from the long side they are 3 yards from the corner. 7v4, short segments, 60-90 seconds. Coach puts balls in quickly from the side, possession always goes to the 8.
Instructions:
- Short segments, high intensity. The team of 8 is either 2 or 3 touch, depending on the ability. The team of 4 is always unlimited. The 8 score by putting 7-9 passes together consecutively and the the 4 score by winning the ball and putting the ball on the ground through one of the 4 gates. The 4 must take at least 2 touches before they pass through the gate. 2 touches can be executed by 1 player or by 2 different players, but it must be a minimum of 2.
Coaching Points:
- This exercise is meant to create good reactions and habits when you win and lose the ball. In possession, the numbers are 7v4. When a team loses possession, they must react quickly to close down the ball immediately. The best chance to win the ball back is directly when you lose it. With the ball, the 7 want to create spacing and angle themselves to see things quickly and put quick passes together. When the desired passes is achieved, players must arrange themselves for shots. This game should be organized chaos. Many changes of possession and high intensity for a short duration.
