Past
In the game against Ballarat our #7, #9 and #11 were too static and when the ball was played into #7, #9 and #11 we failed to support the front 3 to create goal scoring opportunities.
Present
We are going to work good movement from our #7,#9 and #11 so they can receive the ball with good support from the midfielders to allow combination play to create goal scoring opportunities by getting behind the defence.
Future
This should give us more chances and opportunities to score goals, originating from central areas and central midfielders supporting the #7, #9 and #11, so that goal scoring opportunities can be created from combination play and getting behind the defence

Explanation/Progression
Set up as shown with all players
Where there are 2 players on a cone, the passive defender (blue) becomes the attacker and the arriving player becomes the passive defender
Initial
Pass to player on next station
1>2>3>4>5>6>7>8>1
Follow pass and move to next station, dynamic stretches b/w cones.
Player either
1.receives behind passive defender with back foot
2.moves ahead of passive defender and takes ball on front foot in front of cone
2 touches, 1 to receive, one to pass
Player moves to next station, doing dynamic stretches.
Introduce 2 and 3 ball
Go to show and Show to Go
Progression 1
5 plays to 6
6 opens up and passesto 7
7 bounces pass back to 6
6 passes to 8
Progression 2
1 wall pass with 2
1 then passes to 3
2 supports 3, receives ball and plays to 4
Passers move to next station
Start to let players decide the balls to be played. ie either turn out or wall pass
Progression 3
Introduce passive defenders who either stay of track receiver
Based on pressure from behind, the receiving either plays a wall pass or turns and plays ball
Players passing move to next station
Defenders become more agressive and game like by increasing pressure
Comments
1.Change the shape to be more game realistic.
2.Communication between players, give it me back, open up and take it etc
3.Increase intensity as passing practice continues
4.Get players to check away from station

Organisation
Dependant on numbers
Option 1 (12 -15 players)
6v6 with extra players as bouncers or jokers
playing a 2-3-1
playing area 40x30 end zones 7 metres
Option 2 (16+ Players)
2 concurrent games of 4v4 can be played with a 1-2-1 formation with extra players as bouncers or jokers
area 30 by 20 end zones 5 metres
Setup
3 zones as shown above, adjust to suit numbers to either option 1 or option 2
•The end zone cannot be entered by middle zone players until the ball gets in there
•Players try to play the target player
•One attacker can then enter the end zone for a 1 touch finish into small goals
•Target player has 1 touch
•Players cannot enter end zone until a 1-2 is played with the target player
•Add jokers as required
•After each attack play restarts playing the other way with the target player now a sweeper
•As soon as the ball is played to a target player
an attacking player must get to support the target player asap
•Defenders of the team in possession to move into middle section to create overload
•As soon as the ball is played to a target player
an attacking player must get to support the target player asap
Team Task:
Keep possession until you have a clear pass to the target player, and then make quick forward runs to support the target player
Player Tasks:
•Don’t risk it!
•Receive the ball in an “open” stance to make sure you have good visibility
•Try to pass/play the ball forward, but “don’t risk losing possession”
•Try and pass in front of the receiving player
•Try and to the receiving players preferred foot
•Get level and outside of your immediate opponent
•If you cant get level and outside, drop back level with the ball so you can receive the ball facing forwards
Coach’s Cues:
•As soon as the ball is played to the target player, get support to him asap
•As the ball is moving, get into a passing lane
•As the ball is moving, look to see where the next pass will be.

Organisation
• Half a pitch as shown, adjust to suit ability and age
• Blue defending, GK and back 4 and 3 midfielders as defenders
• 2 centre backs, 3 midfielders and 7,9 and 11 as attackers
• 30 by 30 zone in central area with 3 red and 3 blue midfielders and 2 red centre backs, one that has moved up into midfield.
Explanation
• Midfielders and Centre Back in a 30 by 30 square 4 v 3 and other centre back as keeper/sweeper
• Play starts with blue midfield player playing to centre back, who plays ball into area for a 4v3 overload in red favour.
• All midfielders must have a touch and then look to get ball to #7, #9 or #11
• When ball played to #7, #9 or #11, the 2 highest attacking midfielders connect with #9 to support and one blue midfielder allowed in to help defend,
• Defenders (blues) to track runners
• If defenders win ball, they try to find the Sweeper/Keeper by playing the ball thru the 30 by 30 zone
• Initially passive defence, no tackling, interceptions or passing errors only to recapture ball.
• Attackers can play ball back to midfield zone and start again
Progressions
• Tackling allowed
• Remove central zone cones
• Allow a 2nd attacker into attacking area and 1 defender
• Attackers must have a shot on goal within 5 seconds of #7, #9 and #11 receiving the ball
Step Up:
• 2 touch for attacking midfielders
• Allow 2 red midfielders in to assist defending
Step Down:
• Only allow one blue midfielder to defend in final 3rd
• Allow 3 reds in to support #7, #9 and #11
• Allow 10 seconds for red to have a goal attempt
• Allow reds 5 seconds to get ball to sweeper/keeper

Team Task:
Create goal scoring opportunity by playing the ball forwardto the #7, #9 and #11, and with good movement and support for combination playto get behind the defence.
Player Tasks:
Defenders
1. Centre backs stay tight with #7, #9 and #11 andstop them from turning and playing forward.
2. Work as a unit, keep shape game “real” push upas far as needed, without exposing too much space behind.
AttackingMidfielders
1. Controlled possession, Don’t Risk it
2. Good support, communication
3. Look to play the ball forward ball into the #7,#9 and #11 and have midfielder(s) support the #7, #9 and #11
4. Midfielders support #7, #9 and #11 on an angle, with a view to eploit gaps betewee defenders
5. Look for combination play with the #9 to geteither #7,9 or 11 behind the defence, or a supporting midfielder
6. Ensure near post, hotspot and far post arecovered with late runs
Wingers
1. Starting position High and Wide (Level andOutside)
2. Double movement to move full back
3. When coming short to receive the ball look forwall pass with #9 or #10 to get behind full back
4. If you can turn and face forward, take the fullback on with pace, stop start, feints (attack the front foot/inside shoulder)
5. When past defender, cut across the defender
6. If no room behind, either cross, cut across orstart again/switch
7. Get the ball into hotspot as soon as possible
8. #11 get into penalty area when #7 either pastfull back or looking to cross
9. Come inside and create space for overlapping runfrom midfielder
Striker
1. Stay high and central between the centre backs
2. Look to come short and receive ball frommidfielders or
3. Get level and outside with marking defender.
4. Lock ball in and play to midfielders to createcombination play.
5. Make late run into box, either near post orpenalty spot, other players to adjust their runs accordingly
Coach’s Cues:
1. When the #7, #9 or #11 receives the ball can thenearest or most appropriate midfielder get into a supporting position thatallows them to play the ball forward “in behind” asap
2. When a midfielder is supporting the #7, #9 or #11,can another player (midfielder) look to make 3rd man run to receive the ball
3. After #9 receives and plays the ball to a supportingplayer, can they spin away from the ball to create space and disrupt/drag thedefender away from the ball
4. If #7, #9 and #11 are high and wide, but theball carrier is unable to make a pass, can you drop back level with the ball togive your immediate marker a problem. Eitherthe marker will go with you and leave space OR not go with you, in which caseyou can get the ball and face forward
5. If the wingers are running with the ball with anopponent, can they square up the defender so they can look to get in behind

Do reds try to score a goal by playing in number 9 and midfielders supporting?
Is there sufficient movement from the forwards to receive the ball and either play someone in or turn and shoot

Key Principle:Creating Goal Scoring Opportunities
What?
Lack of movement from #7, #9 and #11 and support from midfielders to have creative combination play to create goal scoring opportunities when teams have an organised defence.
Who?
6,7,8,9,10,11
When?
Whenever we are in mid third and play into #7, #9 or #11
Where?
Mid/Final 3rd
Why?
Attacking midfielders do not connect with front 3 players quickly enough
Lack of movement to create space to get the ball "in behind"
Summary
Support for #7, #9 and #11 was too late to allow for combintation play in the final 1/3rd
Better movement from #7, #9 and # 11 to distrupt the defenders.
Session Objective:
Today I aim to improve my teams ability to create goal scoring opportunities by getting in behind through better movement from the 3 attackers and improved midfield support.
By focusing on: Player Tasks (General/Position Specific)
Midfielders connecting with #7, #9 and #11 as soon as possible
7,9 and 11 to create space to recieve the ball and combine with midfielders and look to get a player behind defence for a goal scoring opportunity
Key Player Action required to achieve tasks and objectives
Positioning/Movement without the ball.
6,8 and 10 to react and move into good supporting position for #7, 9 and 11
7 and 11 to stay high and wide full backs and look to get behind defence
9 to provide movement to get into pockets of space to recieve the ball
Core Skills
Movement and passing of the ball
Communication
All players to recognize the shape required and encourage/direct as needed
