Warm up into first activity

Key Factors

Warm up -

- Players to get into partners. One partner on the outside of the square, the other on the inside. - Inside players initially without a ball, are turning are various cones. After 4 swap with partner.

First activity -

- Same structure, now with a ball. initially turniong however they want (problem solving/ guided discovery).

- Now coach will step in and demonstrate and explain specific turns.

- Inside hook (refresh from last week).

- Outside hook.

- Drag back.

- Cones are colour coordinated in a traffic light system (Green - Orange - Red).

- To differinate this blocked practice, children that are finding the turns easier than others are working in traffic light order, from green to orange to red and swap with partner (thinking about order as well as skill).

Organisation

- Players in partners, with one partner in the middle and the other on the outside of the area.

- Large cones scattered in the middle to provide turns, these provide more of an obstacle for players and also represent defenders.

- Rest:Work ratio of 1:1 for these activties.

Skill development

Key Factors

- Groups opposite each other will both dribble into the middle, perform a turn and dribble back to their team where the next player will go.

- Initially players will decide what kind of turn, then I will decide to differentiate in regards to ability and skill level.

- if one group are able to perform this with speed then this group can be developed to 1 v 1s where they take on each other using the turns we have learnt.

Organisation

- Class split into small groups to allow lots of 'doing time'.

- Approximately 4:1 rest:work ratio as intensity is increased and importance for players to watch how ohers perfrom the skills.

- 2 groups opposite each other, with a large cone in the middle (defender). Unless wind is an issue and several small cones shall be utilised.

Small sided games

Key Factors

- Finish on small sided games to allow children to show what they have learnt throughout the session and previous sessions in a competitive situation.

- Make teams as small as possible allow players more touches and time on the ball (all depends on numbers, space and equipment available).

- When the ball leaves the pitch it is passed back in and not thrown. Easier to control a ground pass, allowing more fluid football.

Organisation

- Split the area into two pitches.

- Goals either side,

- Equal teams.
