Warm-Up (10 mins)

Organization

15x15 squares

4 players in each square

5 cones, balls around square

Activity

  • At the start of round, the offensive players begin passes the ball between themselves trying to find an opening to knock the castle down. The offensive players can dribble, pass, and move inside the square.
  • While the offense works, the defender moves around the square trying to prevent to castle from being knocked over.
  • If the castle gets knocked down, the defender resets the ball and then play continues.
  • If the defender wins the ball, or the ball is deflected out-of-bounds, then the ball is given back to the offense and play continues.
  • At the end of each round, players rotate positions. 

Coaching Points

  • Encourage the players to constantly keep moving for each other. Better movement between players will create easier chances to knock over the castle.

5v5 with Target Player (20 mins)

Organization 

30x20

2 small nets with cones, different colours

5v5 in play, 1 target player on each team outside the space

Activity

Players play a 5v5 game within the space and attempt to pass through one of the gates to their target player.

Progression

Target player who receives the ball for the point, keeps possession and enters space.  The player who passed it, takes target player's spot. 

Coaching Points

Movement off the ball to support teammates

After a pass is made, fill in the next space to receive

Come to the ball maintaining open body position

Progression - Dropping into space as players move high (to be the target player)
