Description:
The group is split into two teams of 5, with 2 neutral players and 2 goalkeepers needed to complete this small sided game. Again, the pitch is split into 3, with a central channel dividing 2 halves. The team in possession will look to build 3vs2 +1 and will look to play into the neutral player positioned within the central channel.
After receiving, the player in possession will drive into the attacking half, creating a 3vs3 and are tasked with creating goal scoring opportunities. The other neutral player, will now occupy the central channel. Apart from the neutral players, all players are locked within their respective half. Normal rules of football apply within the game, with the in possession goalkeeper restarting the practice if the ball goes out of play.
After each working block, the teams will take turns in performing the defensive duties.
Progression: One defender can apply pressure within the central zone, with the players now allowed to transfer the ball, bypassing the central area / neutral player.
Coaching points:
Attracting pressure: The neutral player is asked to attract pressure from a defensive player. Creating a 2vs2 in the attacking half, allowing the team in possession to take advantage.
Protecting under pressure: Throughout the progression, the coach is to challenge receiving players to protect the ball if they receive under pressure. Placing their body in between the ball and defensive player will prevent the opposition from disrupting possession.Penetrating passes: Players are asked to take advantage of poor pressing, playing forwards when opportunities arise and when the oppositions press is disjointed.
