WARM UP: SHOOTING DRILL

ORGANISATION: see diagram above.

1. Two goals are placed on either side of the line with 2 goal-keepers. The goals should be between 15-20yds away.

2. Players are placed in lines next to each goal.

3. Striker is on half turn in the middle conned/shaded area.


WHAT I TELL MY PLAYERS TO DO

  •  Pass the ball to the striker on half-turn and shoot in opposite goals.
  • After shooting go behind the opposite queue 
  • Rotate outfield players with strikers
COACHING POINTS
  • Side foot passing, accuracy, weight, speed and direction of pass.
  • Diagonal and parallel passes
  • Receive with back foot, set and shoot to the far corners-bottom/top
  • 1 or 2 touch before shooting- speed and quality of shot, surprise the keeper.
  • Shoot with both feet.
  • Don't move the head when shooting
  • Quality of shot- power(shoe laces/knuckle), accuracy(inside foot)
  • Decision making
  • Get theshot of quickly
  • Aim lowand for the corners
  • Can youhit the ball across the keeper?

Organization:

2+2 + 2 + 3 vs GK+2+2+2+3 ie 9 v 10

Two teams: the offensive team (Red)and defending team (blue)

WHAT I TELL THE PLAYERS TO DO  

  • RMF/LMF must start the play with: pass -wall pass, diagonal, parallel pass to either 10, S1, S2, 7 & 11
  • 7 & 11 players receive and either do a flank serve as in a game, find a pass that will lead to a shot or shoot. 
  • Switch teams after every 5 mins, Blue Team becomes offensive.
  • Play for 20mins at high tempo and physically demand from players.(players stay in their zone for 15 mins then allow them to enter other zones but maintaining POSITIONAL PLAY).
  • Play normally and remove all the restrictions- 2 goals, 2 keepers and normal rules apply

FINISHING COACHING POINTS:

·        Stay calmunder pressure

·        Use yourarms for balance

·        Strikethe ball towards the corners

·        Hit theball across the goalkeeper if you can

·        Learn touse all side of your feet to strike the ball

·        Laces formore power – side foot for more placement

·        Find abalance between accuracy and power ratio

·        Get thebody in alignment for the right shot

·        Non-kickingfoot placed firmly beside the ball

·        Keep yourhead still

·        Learn andunderstand the different ball contact points for each type of shot

·        EG:Straight through the center of ball with the laces

·        EG: Wrapyour foot round the ball just off-center to curl it


Defensively: belief and confidence

  • Communicate, stay compact/organized, press, cover, remember when the ball goes wide, a flank serve will come in so defenders have to mark closely and try to see the ball and their defensive mark.
  • Anticipate and mark the space
  • Once the ball is won, must PASS it to an outside teammate to move to offensive players.
  • Quick counter Attack

Offensively: belief and confidence

  • This is a scoring game.  Use 1v1, QUICK COMBINATION PLAY IN AND AROUND THE PENALTY BOX, getting on the end of flank service to score.
  • When the ball is lost, don't let the defence play it to their outside teammates, win it back QUICKLY AND AGGRESSIVELY and score.
