Football Problem
We dont transition into position quick enough to move forward quickly
Session Objective
Increase speed of positional transition to put to progress up the feild asap
Organisation:
Field and players set up as shown. Field width reduced to allow the game to be more compact.
reds are to stop the blue team from playing out by staying compact and move as a unit to block down forward passes. Reds need to try and score when they win the ball and create as much movement as possible to try and make the defense disorganised. When reds lose the ball they are to get into formation to win the ball back as soon as possible. Blue team to progress the ball over the half way line when they win the ball
Progression:
Allow 7 11 red and 2 5 blue outside the grid to add width.
Limit touches when playing out
Team Task
Blue to play out from the back ensuring that they always have 3 options. When they lose the ball they are to try and prevent forward passes through the middle and stay in a structured 4 2 formation.
Red to try and win ball asap by applying pressure on the ball by the closest player. When they win the ball they must move off the ball constantly to get into passing channels and shoot on goal as soon as they are on or around the 18 yard box
Player Tasks
REDS: Move off the ball as muchas possible to try and create as many passing channels as possible. Maintain good structure and keep the ball moving as quick as possible. When in BP 9 to cut off passing lane between 3 & 4 and 10 to press the ball carrier to elimintate forard pass into the middle and 7 & 11 to be close enough to the 2 & 5 that they can win the ball on their first touch
Blues: Stay compact to win the ball when reds gain posession and create as many passing options as possible when playing out from the back. 6 & 8 to ensure one is high and one is low
Coaches Cues
When ball is played from one side of the feild to the other can the red team maintain shape. Are the red team communicating effectively to ensure they are staying compact and pushing the play wide
does the blue team have movement off the ball and finding space to try and disrupt the red teams structure. Are they transitioning into BPO posissions quick enough to win the ball back asap
