Purpose of excecise is to free up a blue player to dribble from zone 1 to zone 2, and then from zone 2 to zone 3 where he will attempt to finish. Use numerical advantage to pass and manipulate defenders to attacking team's advantage, freeing up a blue player to proceed as described. Red defenders cannot exit their zone.
Set up field with three zones of 30x10 (adjust to suit)
In zone 1, blues will have 3v2 advantage
Play begins with blue trying to dismark and free up a player to receive a pass from the coach
Once blue receives, proceed as described until a blue player is sprung (on the dribble) into zone 2, where process repeats, now with a 2v1 advantage.
If a blue player (need not be the same one) exits to zone 3 on the dribble, they play 1v1 with keepr to finish.
NOTES:
Passes (such as the 1-2 shown above) must be completed within a zone, and cannot lead an attacking player into the next zone.
If defenders win the ball, they may attack the two small cone goals at the top of the field.
Coaching points:
Emphasize dismarking by attacking players
Quick ball movement to free up attacking player for the dribble
Encourage attacking players to recognize "the moment" to attack next zone: Open body shape, ready to dribble
Run several times, swap out attackers, then defenders, then change roles, depending on number of players.
