The defending team is a player down but has a goalkeeper.
The attacking team is playing with 6 in a 2-3-1 formation.
Both teams will need to focus on getting behind the ball in order to defend properly to keep the game in front of them. The Blue team will defend the big goal and the Red team will defend the small counter goals.

This session is a bit more specific than others because we will be working with midfielders specifically
Focusing on defending in midfield.
The way we want our teams to play is that they need to get organized behind the ball and so that means that midfielders need to retreat behind the ball to be prepared to defend.
In this activity the exercise starts with the ball being played in from the coach to an attacking player, the midfielders need to get behind the ball and then apply the shifting princiles to deal with the correct spaces on the field.
Attacking players will start on the red cones
Defending players will start on the blue cones
The ball starts with the coach who plays it into one of the red players. The blue players as soon as the ball leaves the coach's foot can drop in and get prepared to defend.
Need to have immediate pressure on the ball and cover to try to force play backward.
Once the defenders win the ball they can look to clear it or they can look to play a pass to the coach.
