Everybody's it

Everybody is a tagger. The objective of the game is to not get tagged and to tag as many people as you can. Challenge the players to ask how many times they were tagged. Tag all players on their back ONLY.

Work for 90 seconds without soccer ball and then do 3 reps of 90 seconds with soccer ball.

Progressions

1) Start with the players playing without a ball.

2) Introduce the ball (The game will now be much slower, but the players will be thinking tactically about their movement and technically about the ball)

Coaching Questions to players

How can we be more successful at this game?

1) What can do to see where the other players are?

2) What can you do to tag more players when you have the ball?

3) What can you do to not get taggewd as much when you have the ball?

4) Where should we be looking at all times?

5) Who are we able to tag?

6) What type of touches should we take? Why?

Ball Retreival

Players get into pairs. Coach takes their ball and throws it away, tell players to return the ball back in your pair.

Progressions

1) 3 reps - Throw ball away and ask them to return it with their pair.

2) 3 reps - Throw ball away and ask them to return it in a certain number of touches with their pair.

Coach Cue - Keep moving around the square so that the players now have to see where you are.

3) 3 reps - Let the players choose their number of touches. Throw the ball away as far as you need to for the players to get that number of touches.

4) 3 reps - Can you now bring the ball back using 3 passes but a total number of 10 touches.

5) 3 reps - Can you now bring the ball back using 4 passes but a total number of 12 touches.

6) 2 reps - Bring the ball back without using your feet.

Coaching Points

Let the players be in control, give them the instructions but let them dictate how they do it. Do not give them the answer, you should only ask them 5 W's and How.

Passing Gate Game

Players are in pairs. Objective of the game is to pass the ball through as many gates as possible in their pairs inthe alloted time.

Progressions

1) 2 reps of 45 seconds - Free Play. Rep #1, ask them what their score was. Rep #2, ask the players to beat their previous score by 2 points (Feel free to change pairs around if some pairs are finding it difficult to work together due to the differing levels of ability in the pair.

2) 2 reps of 45 seconds - Change partner (Can we now play with lead communicator)

3) 5 reps of 30 seconds - Include bandit who can stand infront of a gate. The first rep the bandit will be unopposed and can not win the ball just to ease the attacking players into it. The remaining 4 reps will be opposed defending. When the bandit wins the ball, they try and dribble through as many open gates as possible and if they fail and the attackers win the ball back, they leave and try to get the ball off someone else)

Coaches Questions

How can we make sure that we make a successful pass (Distance from the gate)?

Who should be the lead communicator?

What can our partner be communicating if we have a bandit approaching?

Which gate should we always be looking to go to?

What does an empty gate if we were playing a scrimmage (Space)?

Where can our partner stand if we have a bandit moving towards us?

Game - 4v4

Let the kids know the following rules

1) If a goal is scored, replay from a goal kick and defending team must retreat back to their goal.

2) If a ball is kicked out for a throw in, restart play with a dribble back in or a pass if they want.

3) A corner ball is to be played back in same as a throw in.

Give positive feedback to players if they do anything which revolves around working in pairs. If a player shows a brilliant peice of skill, encourage that also as we still want players to be individual.
