Competitive Cauldron -- 1v1 (to 2v2 if we have time)

This is a scalable high-pressure game that can be adjusted to present many different challenges to players, forcing them to continuously find new soccer solutions on the fly.

Organization:

20x10 yard space divided and marked out into 4 adjacent 5x10 yard spaces as shown

8 players divided into 4 pairs

4 balls

Cone Goals

Fours games of 1v1 are played simultaneously, one in each section. Players try to score as many times as possible in 1 minute. Score by dribbling over the end line. After each 1-minute game, players rotate so that each one is facing a new opponent. Each player play 4 games, thus playing each opponent from the other team once.

First game - 1v1 with player passing ball to opposition. Out of bounds start play over with players taking turns on offense and defense.

Second game - 1v1 with players starting in middle of field back to back. Out of bounds start play over with players taking turns on offense and defense.

After a quick water break, players return to play 2v2 to 4 goals, with two playing areas combine to form 1 larger space. 2 games of 2v2 are played side by side. Play 2-minute games before switching teams.

Key Points

Activity 2: 1v1 Flying Changes (20 mins)

Description

Split into 2 teams. All players have a ball, although the first person in line on one of the teams will not need one to start, just have it handy. One player dribbles out with the ball, the first player in line on the opposite team runs out to defend against them. A 1v1 ensues. If the ball goes out of play on the Blue half, then a new Blue enters the field with a ball, the Red continues to defend. If the ball exits the field in the Red half, then Blue becomes the defender and a new Red enters with a ball. A goal is the same as the ball leaving the field. Keep progression until goal is scored.
