Description

Vision

To fully prepare each player for the demands of competition; by enhancing their technical skill, tactical understanding and providing them with the tools to achieve their full potential. My vision is to give each and every one of you the belief, motivation and skill to be the best of which you are capable.


Playing style

BP: dominate possession & control the game through proactive-play based on possession with progression. Through recycling the ball quickly & well-timed complimentary movement we can effectively create space through the thirds. 

BPO: out of possession, we are patient & compact. Strong when pressing individually, and stronger still when pressing collectively. Man-marking in attacking half / zonal marking in defensive half. 

BP>BPO: turnover of possession - press collectively and immediately to win the ball back quickly. If we cannot win it quickly, drop off to occupy space through the thirds and block direct passing lines. 

BPO>BP: recovery of possession - quick forward movement & quick passing to exploit overload as soon as possible. Be quick but don't hurry; diagonal & opposite runs from supporting players to create  / clear space ahead of ball carrier.


Philosophy

We cannot be truly confident unless we are prepared. With this in mind, it's important to understand that we have very little control over the many possible variations an opponent might use in a game. We do, however, have complete and total control, over the preparation and execution of our game

I'm a firm believer that it takes time to create excellence. If it could be done quickly, more people would do it. Excellence requires patience / Success requires patience. And so, we focus on the things over which we have control, and commit ourselves to getting a little bit better, every day in preparation.

Tasks

Recognise high press; react by moving to receive short + wide, or bursting forward to receive in middle third.

Complimentary movement in middle third is key to freeing deepest players.

Prepare the space you want to receive in. Make contact with marker, and control them. 

GK look to play beyond first defenders as often as possible.

As GK distributes, deepest players must immediately move to support behind and around the ball.

Tasks

Pitch positions to create width in back third

Pitch positions to create depth in middle third.

Always set up on different horizontal & vertical lines. 

If they giving us space in back 3rd; give left & right options to the ball carrier to allow direct passes through to target.

As often as possible, commit 1st defender before releasing the ball - if forward options are limited, baller carrier must have an outlet & forward options must rotate and prepare space the want to receive in

Tasks

After finding a pass to a pivot; support play behind the ball,around & in front.

If space in opp. back 3rd is limited, set up as a 3 (shown above) and be patient - by keeping the ball we can force the opponent to vacate space in there. 

Central player must always give depth to 3.

Wide players stretch the opposition to create opportunities to play to target.

Passes to target must be immediately supported from behind /around.

Benefits

Easy for players to learn as it's clear who is responsible for what: good starting point.

Greater focus, easy system to learn.

Attackers are given very little time to think.

Effective when facing technically limited teams.


Drawbacks

More difficult to provide cover.

Less teamwork between players.

Allows the attacking team to create passing angles*

More physically demanding.

Individual errors are more costly.


*to combat the issue of direct passes to target from opp. GK; our front two will start a little more narrow to discourage direct passes, and force play wide.

Benefits

Less physically demanding as players cover for each other more.

Allows the team to use players who are weaker defensively.

Opposition players are forcedto think more as passing angles have been closed down.

Provides simple transition to counter-attack.


Drawbacks

Requires a great deal of communication and teamwork between players.

Demands players with a good understanding of defensive principles tactics.

Allows the opposition to create numerical advantages in attack which the team must know how to defend against*



*important that we understand the principles of pressure, cover & balance; delegation of responsibility & how best to recover defensive shape if past the line of the ball.
