Objective: Passing, receiving, and movements to beat opponent on overlap.
Equipment: Cones, latter, hurdles, and balls.
Organization: Grid size 8 - 15 yards wide X 12 - 20 yards long (depending on objetctive). Set up into each channel with groups of 4 - 6 players. Players dribble to outside cone and makes a turn/ move, then passes to teammate (after checking away and checking back), communicate hold, teammate draws defender inside with dribble and over lap combination is completed. Players return through latter and agility s tations .
Progres s ion:
Progression 1: Cut pass with inside foot.
Progression 2: Cut pass with outside foot.
Progression 3: Fake initial over lap pass by making predictable
and taking space to create through ball.
Progression 5: Finish to goal.
Coaching Points:
- Dribble slowly in diagonal to draw a defender.
- Hide the ball.
- Change of speed to beat player after pass.
- Change direction to beat a player after pass.
- Play pass across teammates body (so they can return pass with far/ front foot.
- Player checking to initial pass moves opposite first and times checking run back in diagonally. - Player checking to initial pass, checks shoulder.
- Posture when dribbling, then passing and when changing speed.
- Dribbling with head up.
- Communication "hold"
- Be unpredictable
- After pass to overlapping player, join the attack to get back in an advanced support position.
