Method:

Using an area 30 x 30 yards is a 6 v 6 with 2 goalkeepers located inside 20 yards apart.

Goalkeepers are in a 5 x 5 yard square.

The aim is to keep possession using the goalkeepers as an overload 8 v 6.

To start goalkeepers are only allowed to use their feet progressing to use their hands only.

To score teams have to complete 5 passes without the opposition getting a touch on the ball.

  • Direction pass
  • Good decisions ball being played to feet or space.
  • Any pass into the goalkeeper needs to be appropriate for the condition.
  • Passes into the feet need to be controllable, and passes into the hands need to bee catchable. Lofted passes may be used to pass into the goalkeepers striking underneath the ball.
  • Movement to Receive
  • Creating space
  • Angles to receive the ball.
  • In possession, the team should make the area as big as possible with their shape stretching the pitch length & width.
  • When the goalkeeper receives the ball, they need options to pass or throw into.
  • These options need to be both short and long or into feet or space.
  • The ball should be moved quickly throughout the team but this can only be done with options for the player on the ball.
  • Decision Making & Awareness
  • Players need to consider is the pass into the goalkeeper on.
  • They also need to think about the technique of the pass required either a firm side footed short pass into feet or a lofted pass that goes directly into the goalkeepers hands.
  • Other decisions will be taking one or two touch, pass selection and also which runs to make off the ball.
  • Being aware of the surroundings is also crucial to maintain possession which will help make better decisions.
  • Every player should check shoulders and constantly be scanning the area to know what is around them and team mates.
