Passing Warm-Up 2

Game Model Moment: Attacking Organisation
Team Principle: Create overloads around the ball to look to move into next phase
Sub-Principle: Swift ball movement – quick combinations – find connections through thethirds
Explanation: Passing Patterns - 4 patterns. Same pattern running opposite of each other to add distraction & obstacles. Progress through patterns together.

1) A->B who dribbles into next line ->D->a dropping E->a forward running C->F

2) F->G who dribbles into next line -> J->H->I->who finds a forward moving G->A
3) If we have 14 - add two defenders and allow open combination (must touch all 3 middle players) - if the defending player wins it - they play home (whether its A or F depending on direction) and player who lost it becomes defender. Player who won it replaces them

Everyone follows their first pass G will go to the J spot - I will go to the A spot

    Positioning Game

    Game Model Moment: Attacking Organisation
Team Principle: Create overloads around the ball to look to move into next phase
Sub-Principle: Swift ball movement – quick combinations – find connections through thethirds
Explanation: 24m x 18m grid with 2 goals at either end (4 in total) set up with poles. 7v7 - 3v3 in the middle with rest of the players as "bounces" on the outside. Team in possession is allowed to have 1 outside player come into the grid to make it an overload - rest of the players act as bounces (can rotate in and out). Aim of the game is to find one player at end (between the goals) and then attack the opposite direction. Score by DRIBBLING through the gates and then a 2nd player makes a movement through the 2nd gate to receive a pass and then attack the other direction.

Progression: Players allowed to pass through the gates to score - this includes bounces

Opposition bounce pass can defend the pass between two players behind the gate

    Make it a 5v3

    Make it a 5v4

    Key Messages:

  • Body positioning to play not just next pass but set up pass after
  • Ball speed - quick combinations
  • Scanning to know surroundings
  • 2 touch max unless driving
  • Movements made before your pass to respond to the ball
  • Movements made in time of the pass you want
  • Constant communication
    • Can top player always look to be in a position to receive
    • If the top player is not free - are we able to make a rotation to allow someone to be free further ahead of us
    • If we can't make the rotation - are we able to play a ball to retain and create a rotation
    •  Utilise overloads to isolate a player and combine around
    • Utilise a wide player to stretch opposition - can you either pull a player out to combine around or move the opposition to allow a combination to find the other side
    • Can we keep rotations up to unsettle opposition - not just around us 3 but behind - to the side - and ahead of us
    • Player looking to come make the overload - can you make a movement in time for a combination around an isolated player.

    Number of Players: 14 players
    Duration: 6x 2min - 45sec - 18min total

    Game Training

    Game Model Moment: Attacking Organisation
Team Principle: Create overloads around the ball to look to move into next phase
Sub-Principle: Swift ball movement – quick combinations – find connections through thethirds
Explanation: 6v6w2 - split into two thirds for guides with wide channels. 20m - 40m - 20m (80m long) - 12m wide channels. 2 neutral players start in wide channels in mid third. - teams set up in a 2 - 3 - 1. Players are free to move into any third they wish but offside not active until the final third. Players can not move into wide channels - neutrals allowed free movement but must have 1 player in a wide channel at ALL times. Teams looking to score to replicate central penetration - wide players not allowed into final thirds in wide channels so no crossing.
Key Messages: Work as a collective chain

Progression: Players allowed to move freely between channels - but must always have 1 wide player.

Remove no crossing rule but must be a drilled pass

    Key Messages:

    • 3/4 - Are you able to find a player in a half-space who has space to look forward?
If you can't find someone to look forward can you find a player who is able to bounce the ball the opposite way?
Are you able to keep the ball moving side to side to move the opposition until we create space?
If you get given space can you drive in and isolate a player to overload and play around?

    • 6 - Can you look to create space for the CBs to join the midfield overloads to give more options on the ball?
Can you play the way you face quickly to keep the ball moving between the thirds?
Are you able to support any player ahead of you who is facing backwards?
Can you be the anchor to receive the ball at all times to go side to side?
Look to rotate with the 8/10 if you're not in space to receive
If another player looks to drop deeper into your space can you make a forward run?

    • 8/10 - Closest player to the ball can you get into a half-space to position yourself side on to be able to go either way?
Are you able to support the furthest player if the ball is travelling to them?
Can you combine with the furthest player if you're on the ball?
If you're not able to combine with the furthest player - are you able to find the next option to retain?
Are you able to isolate a player with your ball movement to play around?
If you're not on the ball and the furthest player is combining with someone - can you either support to let them make a third man run - or make the third man run yourself?
Can you look for constant rotations - ahead - out wide - underneath?
Always keep the ball moving unless you have space to drive

    • 9 - Can you drop in to create an overload if someone can replace you?
Are you able to find a passing lane to look to recieve?
Can you receive high either to take beyond and penetrate or to receive in a way someone else can penetrate?
If you have your back to goal can you continue to combine when numbers are close to you? Or can you roll your defender?

    • Wide Players - Wide player closest to the ball can you position yourself in a place to receive the 2nd pass in a higher position?
If the wide player closest to the ball is high and wide can I come inside? If they're inside can I be high and wide?
Can I help players to drag opposition one way before going the other?
Are you able to help isolate and play around players?

    Number of Players: 16 players
    Duration: 20minutes

    Cage

    Game Model Moment: Attacking Organisation
Team Principle: Create overloads around the ball to look to move into next phase
Sub-Principle: Collective Team Shape - Work as a Chain to Close Width & Depth
Explanation: 4v4w/1 cage. 3 teams of 4 + 2 rotating neutrals - resting team spread across middle channel as bounces. 24m x 18 yard width middle channels + 2x 12m neutral zones. Players allowed to shoot from anywhere but if they can penetrate player gets a 1v1 with goalkeeper - defenders not allowed in neutral zone - attacker has MAXIMUM 2 touches to score - offsides apply which are called by bouncers.

Progression: If not challenging enough - allow bounces to go into neutral zones to cross but then it's a 1v1 for a 2 touch finish.

    Number of Players: 16 players
    Duration: 6x 90sec - 45sec R. 1x 2min Final
