Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): Set Pieces -corner

Attacking corner

This set up will remain the same yet have multiple options to play

The amount of players lined up inside the highlighted area (vertically between the penalty spot and 6 meter box/ and horizontally between the outside edge of the 6 meter box and far post) will be determined by how many attacker the opposition has set to counter attack (we always must have one defender more then then they have attackers)

One player inside of the far post

One player on the ball

-Player on the far post will run towards the kicker before the play is even begun to potentially play short and/or assess the situation for one of the options

-Last player on the stick will assume the positioning on the far post and run inside the net and pin the gk to the line (dirty work)

-#1 player on the stick will make a large peeling run to the outside of the far post.  This player should be a dominant attacking header

2v1 option #2

Post player vacates the post and runs to the ball to join kicker

Last player in stick assumes the role of the post player (dirty work)

IF defending team only send one defender to the ball, the two kickers attack 2v1 towards goal

-if defender is close to the endline it should be a ball passed to the other kicker and overlapped

Defending corner

ALL 11 PLAYER IN THE BOX

-One player inside of each post (stay inside the post with a hand on the post until GK calls to push up)

-Three players (defensive headers) in zonal positions across the 6 meter box (left/center/right)

-Remainder of the players (except short defense)position themselves between attackers and zonal players with an aim of just "bumping" them off of their run

-Short defense is there to deter any short play and close the attacker if there is a short play on.  More importantly this player serves to counter attack automatically once gk has possession of the ball.  This attack is made in a diagonal direction towards the corner with one of the bumpers that serves as an attacker also, running towards the opposite corner for a weak side cross

CRITICAL DEFENSIVE POINTS

-zonal players must commit to getting a head on the ball

-bumpers must commit to touching an attacking player as they run in, dont get sucked out

-after ball gets cleared AND gk calls for team to push up, it must be done quickly but in stages (catch up/push up)

 Post players catch up with zonal players

 Post players and zonal players catch up with bumpers 

 Entire group aims to prevent launch of the ball back into the dangerous area

 THEN regain defensive shape
