10 mins
Method:
5 players in red are attacking team who's aim is to keep possession and work from one side of the square to the other using outside players, and the 1 red player in the middle who is there to link up the play.
3 players in blue must try to win the ball back.
Ball always starts on top or bottom of the square, and must be worked to player opposite.
Players on the outside can be tackled, and once the ball goes past the red cone the play is dead and drill resets.
Play for 3 minutes then swap players in the middle for total of 9-10 minutes.
Coaching Points:
- Players on outside must be constantly moving up and down the line to create space and give an angle to the man on the ball
- Player in the middle can act as a decoy, making a run towards player with ball to drag defender away and create space for pass.
- Passing must be fast, one and two touch, making sure defenders don't have time to press and win the ball back.
- Players must always be on toes and be on the move, to keep defenders moving and create space.

20 mins
Method:
Based on full 12 man training session that I ran recently.
Ball must start with the keeper at all times. Attacking team starts in 3-2-3 formation with 3 CBs, 2 CMs, LW, ST, RW. Defending team starts in 2-3-2 formation with 2 CB, 3 CMs, 2 ST.
Attacking team must play 10 passes in a row before ball can be played into gates on wing for 1 point. Keeper can pass to any attacking player to begin the drill, from there play until point is scored on either team, or until ball goes out of play.
Wingers must stay in the zone on the wing, other players may enter the zone too to receive pass.
Defending team must try to win ball back to counter and score in the big goal for a point. Attacking team must transition to defend when the ball is lost to delay the attack and deny a goal scoring opportunity.
Defending team can enter the zone on the wing to tackle.
Coaching Points:
- Wingers must stay in zones to encourage width when attacking, striker stays deep to stretch pitch and leave more room in middle to play through.
- Encourage wingers to come back to receive ball from defenders if no other passes are on.
- Players receive passes with open body shape on back foot.
- Play ball into space for players to run on to, don't always need to play directly to feet.
- Players must scan the pitch to know where their teammates are before they receive a pass.
- Don't be afraid to play the ball back to keeper or defenders if no forward pass is on.
- Do not rush the play, keep calm and play the ball around to drag defenders out of position and create space to pass into.
- Lots of talking, call for ball if you are in space, let player on ball know if he is being closed down or if he has time on the ball.
