In the SSG, the red team now has 2 more forward players, 5 and 6, two defenders and the blues have full backs and a striker, Only the red wingers have numbers as they are the subject of this session.
The red ST is still responsible for closing down the 2 blue CB's, but red 5 and 6 are now responsible for closing down the blue LB and RB.
They do this is a similar fashion to how the red ST closed down the blue CB's in the previous part of the session. They first have to angle their run, so they can cut off any passing lines to the central players, so if the GK gave the ball to the blue RB for exapmle, red 5 would have to arch his run to stop the blue RB passing the ball to a blue CM, and then proceed to close him down as shown, though not as rigid and more of a flowing movement.
the red ST would then get ready to close down the blue RCB, shold he receive the next pass, and the red 6 would come inside ready to close down the blue LCB. The midfield players would still do what they were taught in the function, and tightly mark their respective players.
Anytime the ball goes out to a blue full back, the red wingers should always try to show the opposition player outside.
This is so they can effectively corner the opposition player with the ball.
If they were to allow the opposition player inside with the ball, they would still have the option to play one of 4 ways. forwards, backwards and either side.
If they were to show the opposition players outside, they would only have 3 options, forwards, backwards and one of the sides, and if they are being closed down effectively, this could resuce to just fowards and backwards as an option.
If when the blue RB gets the ball, and he decides to switch the play to his LB, then all of the 3 red forwards would shift across the pitch to close the opposition down.
Red 6 would close down the blue LB who has the ball, the red ST would get ready to close down the LCB, and the red 5 would come inside and get ready to close down the blue RCB.

Blues are trying to score in the mini goal on half way, if red win the ball back, can they score past the GK.
The function starts with the blue GK, who distributes the ball to either blue 2 or 3.
As the ball is in transition, red 5 must try and cut off any forward passing lines to red 5.
For example, if the ball was played from the GK to blue 2, red 5 would have to first move to in between blue 2 and blue 5, and then he would proceed to close 2 blue 2 to try and win the ball.
Red 2 would also push up towards blue 5, just incase the ball did make its way foreard, so that blue 5 wouldn't be able to turn with the ball.
Red 1 would close up to blue 4 for the same reason, and red 3 would step to the inside of the pitch to close off any central passing gaps that may appear.
If blue 2 then switched the play to blue 3, then the red players would switch to the other side of the pitch.
Red 4 would still cut off the passing line to blue 5 before trying to close down blue 3, red 3 would now move out of the central area to mark blue 6 at arms length, red 2 would still shaddow blue 5 as before, and red 1 would move into a more central area to reduce passing gaps available to the blue team.
Red 4 always has to shut off any passing line before closing the opposition down because the reds want to be able to win the ball up high, as if the blues are able to play a forward pass, it makes it harder for the reds when they win the ball back.
This also means that red 4 has to drop everytime the function starts, as if he marks the defenders too tightly, the GK will kick the ball long, again making it harder for the reds when they win the ball back.
If the GK does kick the ball long, adn if it goes down the middle for example, the red 2 would challenge for the ball, and red 1 and 3 would drop behind, incase either red 2 misses the ball, or blue 5 is able to knock the ball on.
If red 2 is able to win it, he can head it straight to red 4, and can maybe get a shot off on goal.
Same principal applies if the ball from a GK kick goes towards red 1, red 2 and 3 would drop, and if it went towards red 3, red 1 and 2 would drop.
