Aims and objectives
- to coach the players to use width and depth on the pitch in a 9 v 9 attacking scenario to create more chances
- to give the wingers a better understanding on how to use the width on the pitch when to go when not to go etc
- to give the striker a better understanding on using depth on the pitch playing off the last man but finding space to receive a penetrating pass or if the wide men get the ball first movement to get into the box
- to ensure the midfielders pick the right moments to support the play

CONDITIONED GAME 25 min
Objective is for a team to get the ball play of a wide player and player between the goals before they can score using the principles of Width and Depth
Red team playing from right to left and blue team playing from left to right
2 yellow men on the outside wings playing for both teams
a red in between the goals they score in and blue between the goals they score in
aim of the game is 7v7 in the middle both teams have a option on the wings as the outside men are neutral
once they win the ball they must use at least one pass off a wide man and a pass off the outside man between the goals before they can score. can progress to outside men one touch and a one touch finish
Coaching points
- change outside men every few minutes
- let the game play the first few minutes
- stop if the players aren't seeing the wide pass early
- are players opening their body up to be positive when recievng the ball
- introduce 2 touch in the middle to speed the play make players move the ball quick and support faster
- make sure wide men get up and down the line to help both teams
- make sure players between the goals stay alert and on their toes
- cant tackle outside players
- can players support the play when moving forward

4x mini goals
8x bibs in 2 colours and 2 bibs for outside players in a third color
pitch size 60x40

9 v 9 PRINCIPLE OF ATTACK USING WIDTH AND DEPTH
20 min game using 3-4-1 with the diamond shape in the middle formation with offside
this formation allows us to use the width and play through the middle to give depth also
the striker to play off the last man to give us depth and the 1 in behind the striker to act like a 10 to link the play going forward also the 1 at the bottom of the diamond play like a 6 can receive off the defence or keeper and hopefully give us the width using body shape and communication from other players to help open up to play wide and forward.
we will look to have our striker on the last man to draw the centre half in and the 10 at the top of the diamond to see that and run in behind for a long pass while staying onside to give penetrating depth also or finding the strikers feet with back to goal on the last man playing a bounce bass back to the 10 and wide then the striker spinning getting into the box and 10 supporting with run into the box and wide man that's free also getting in at back post for the cross
also from goal kicks getting ball to the centre half or bottom of diamond player and playing wide early also
things to look out for
- Body shape - wide men receiving on the half turn so they can see more of the pitch and get forward early player at bottom of diamond scanning before receiving the ball and opening his body and the side to play wide early
- Ball speed - is the weight of the pass correct to complete the pass to help penetrate the opposing team and to the right side where the space is?
-Ball control - can the striker get the first touch right when playing into him to bring others into play? can the wide men get their first touch forward? can the middle men get the ball opened wide with first touch into space to play wide?
POSSIBLE INTERVENTIONS
team not using the full width of the pitch in possession
not seeing the pass to the striker
bottom of diamond not working hard enough to create space to receive the ball and play wide
wrong body shape receiving
to compliment when they have done it well
Game to last 20 min and around 25-30 min all in including before brief during coaching points and end brief
personal performance
make sure the attacking movement off the ball is good the anticipation of the play to get the edge over the defenders when stopping and stepping in show this that as soon as the depth is receiving the ball can the next player already be on their way either it be wide or supporting midfielder then when ball is hit wide make sure supporting players don't make the same runs in the ripple affect i feel this will enhance the topic that we bit more if i can get this explained while stepping in

WARM UP 10 min
4 outside cones 25 yards apart
4 inside cones 5 yards apart2x groups of 4 2x groups of 5 opposite ends
first few mins each group works between the outside cone and the inner cone infront of them [red lines movement]
around it and back from light jog then front kicks,across body kicks, high knees , heels etc
after 5 min of all that then few full circuts [Black line movement] where they jog out to the first cone everyone does circut to the right first side shuffle between first and next to right inner cone then jog out to the outside cone to the right then in and out with shuffle in middle each time untill everyone is back to the original starting point
then repeat but to full circut to the left
then go again introducing different movement in middle like 1.2.3.4.5 quick feet and hands in and out 4 times in the circut or karaoke movement to fill out the 10 min all in full circut to the right and left
