Progression: 2v1 Recovery (20 mins)

Progression 1: Same activity as the previous slide but the now the goals are on opposite ends. There is now also a permanent defender in front of the goalkeeper / mini goal. This will now create a 2v1 with a defender who will be face up with the attacker and a defender who is recovering from behind the ball to press the new attacker. After the recovery run that player goes back to there starting line / position for the next rep.

Rotate the permanent defenders every couple of minutes. Time limit or first to a certain number of goals.

Coaching Points

  • Show me how quickly you can react to defending.
  • Why does it matter how quickly you can press the opponent with the ball.
  • Which player should press the ball? Why?
  • What should the second defender do?

If the Blue player wins the ball the counter attack to the opposite goal. Once the first attack is over with a goal, save or miss a new blue player enters the game to make it a 2v1 going the other way (Two blues vs one red). Once this attacks ends one more red enters the game to make it a 2v2.

Conditioned Game

6v6 game with two cones set up to the side of each goal. Both teams look to work the ball through the 3rds and score in the main goal. The condition on the game is that when a player shoots on goal and misses or the keeper makes a save and holds the ball, that player must then run around one of the two cones which are next to the goals before continuing to play. This creates a numbers up opportunity for the team that were just defending and the attacking team must work hard to recover in defensive transition.

Coaching Points

  • Show me how quickly you can react to defending.
  • Why does it matter how quickly you can press the opponent with the ball.
  • Which player should press the ball? Why?
  • What should the second and third defender do?
