(1) under - find space between ball carrier and own goal to receive a pass and play the next action side-to-side or forwards

(2) switch - pass to opposite side of the field or pass to a teammate who can

Guided Questions

Arrival Game (10 mins)

Organization

Hand ball. Players join in games as they arrive. Begin with 1v1 and progress to 3v3. Once one field is full start another field. Players can take three steps with the ball. Points scored by passing into the end zone.

Objective

Players learn to build good training habits and prepare themselves for practice.

Technique (10 mins)

Organization

Dynamic Duo. 1/2 players outside the larger area servers. 1/2 players inside the smaller area, workers. The inside worker move towards a free server receive a pass and pass it back in one touch. After returning the pass the worker moves through the center area and out to find another free server. Players work for 45 seconds then switch roles.

Objective

Quality of pass.

Key Points

(1) Scan - look away from the ball to gather information; space, opposition, teammates, opportunities, threats.

(2) Quality of pass - pass with inside of foot, strike through center of the ball, eyes on the ball

(3) Timing of movement - always on the move, time movement to arrive in space to receive a pass when teammate is ready
